Job summary
We are delighted to offer an exciting new opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our Blood Sciences and Pathology Network as a Network Training and Development Manager - Histopathology.
This pivotal leadership role comes at a significant point in the evolution of our service.
Over the past two years, the network has undergone a major transformation, achieving substantial improvements in performance.
Our original authorisation rate against the 10-day target has increased from 23% to 73%, demonstrating the success of our improvement journey.
We are now seeking an exceptional individual to help sustain and accelerate this positive trajectory through the implementation of a refreshed approach and new operating model.
Working closely with both the operational leadership team and the transformation programme team, the post holder will play a key role in shaping the future direction of the service and embedding long-term improvements across the network.
Main duties of the job
We are incredibly proud of our Digital Histopathology programme, which has transformed the way we work by creating a digitally enabled service that supports modern pathology practice. This investment has strengthened consultant networking and reporting capabilities, improved turnaround times, and enhanced collaboration across the service. In addition, NHS England funding has supported the introduction of automation and modern histopathology equipment, providing ready-to-use technology that supports robust verification and validation processes. These developments are fundamental to maintaining the highest standards of quality, governance, and workforce development.

Job description Job responsibilities
As Network Training and Development Manager, you will lead the strategic development of education, training, and competency frameworks across the network. You will ensure that workforce development plans support current and future service demands while maintaining compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and regulatory requirements. The role will be instrumental in establishing sustainable training pipelines, supporting succession planning, and ensuring that staff have access to the learning and development opportunities required to deliver high-quality patient care.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
FIBMS Relevant MSc (preferably Biomedical Science) Or equivalent Registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
Desirable
Chartered Scientist status (CSci) NVQ Assessor
Experience Essential
Minimum of 5 years post registration experience as a BMS Experience of training in technical and scientific areas of practice
Desirable
Experienced IBMS Portfolio Assessor Experience in research projects at postgraduate level Experience of appraisal/IPR process and development of PDPs
Skills and Knowledge Essential
Trust vision, values and strategic objectives Broad knowledge of pathology specialisms, including terminology in use, diseases, etc Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, COSHH, HPC requirements, A4C KSF process, laboratory accreditation standards and quality issues
Desirable
Proven ability to design, deliver and assess effective programmes of learning for students and post-graduate learners
Special Requirements Essential
Able to travel between all Trust sites. Willingness to work across sites. Flexible attitude to working hours/pattern.
