The Radiology Administrative Team provide a range of administrative services to our patients and colleagues within the Directorate of Diagnostic Imaging. As a Clerical Officer Apprentice, you will be paid Annex 21* which is a NHS training wage and be supported to complete a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner apprenticeship standard, you will work closely within a team of administrative staff, including medical secretaries and other support staff, providing a wide range of administrative duties to support the Radiology Department. You will be involved in supporting our reception, appointments processes and general enquiries, providing excellent and timely administrative services to our patients.

Main duties of the job

This is a cross-site Apprenticeship for the Radiology Departments at Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District Hospital. You may be expected to work at either hospital site as required.

You will deal with patients and staff internal and external to the Trust and requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a professional, friendly and approachable manner.

You should be educated to GCSE Grade C / 4 or above in English Language and Maths, or equivalent literacy and numeracy skills. You should have effective IT skills as all work is undertaken using a variety of software packages. Previous use of a healthcare information support system would also therefore be advantageous. Previous recent administrative experience with a focus on customer care is essential.

The Radiology Department is open seven days per week, 24 hours per day. Administrative staff work across seven days, working from 8.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m., Monday to Friday, plus weekends and bank holidays. You will be expected to work across these parameters of service provision as part of your normal working week.

*Annex 21 is a percentage of the Band 2 Posts.

To provide a range of administrative services to all areas of Radiology. Provide reception services to patients and visitors in the Department. Ensure high standards of patient documentation at all times and assist in developing a sensitive and caring environment for patients and carers within Radiology. Participate in flexible working arrangements to meet the needs of the Service.

Disposition Essential

Self-starter able to work on own initiative. Good all round communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels. Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Good organisational skills.

Skills and Knowledge Essential

IT literate. Excellent keyboard skills.

Qualifications Essential

Maths & English Language minimum Grade C / 4 or L2 equivalent in the same subjects. Willing to complete a level 2 Customer Practitioner Apprenticeship standard.

Experience Essential

Experience of using a range of MS Office packages including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Experience of working with the public.

Desirable

Previous NHS experience or experience in a clerical environment.

Circumstances Essential

Able to work flexible hours as service needs demand. Committed to complete an Apprenticeship programme.
