About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Pharmacy Team at Kingsway Hospital.We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated Medicines Management Technician to participate in the pharmacy department's safe, effective, and responsive pharmaceutical supply services to Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

We have a new purpose built 54 bedded mental health acute unit, a 14 bedded male Psychiatric Intensive Care unit and an 8 bedded Enhanced Care unit for females, based on the Kingsway Hospital site in Derby. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving the quality of patient care through safe and effective medicines management.

In this role you will work closely with the technicians, pharmacists and nursing leads ensuring governance standards are maintained across our inpatient units. You will have the opportunity for professional development including NHS leadership programmes and accredited medicine management qualifications.

Main duties of the job

Participate in supporting a high-quality medicine management service that is accurate, effective, efficient and safe to all wards.

Ensure all new Inpatient medicines are reconciled in line with national and local policies and medicines are ordered in a timely manner to patients within the Trust.

Provide medicines information and support to patients and carers to optimise treatment outcomes.

Ensure pharmacy audits are completed as per schedule and governance standards are always adhered to. Ensuring audit action plans are followed up.

Monitor and screen the leave and discharge triages for safe supply of medicines.

Completing a regular accuracy checking session within the pharmacy.

Independently travel between sites. Travel costs will be reimbursed. Working hours are Monday - Friday 9am - 5.15pm.

Regular inpatient ward visits Medicine reconciliation and checking of PODs Leave and Discharge Triage Completion of Discharge Medicines Service (DMS) dashboard Patient counselling Inpatient top up and stock top up (adhoc basis) Pharmacy governance audits Accuracy checking of medicines Bank Holiday working (one or two per year) The pharmacy department promotes a culture of continuing education and development: applicants will be expected to aspire to further enhancing their own knowledge and skills.

Qualifications & Skills Essential

oRecognised Pharmacy Technician qualification (NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus under pinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, BTEC, City & Guilds or equivalent) or working towards oAccredited Checking Technician Qualification or working towards oRegistered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a qualified technician or working towards

Skills Essential

oWorks to high level of accuracy oShow attention to detail. o Able to work under pressure to meet service deadlines
