About this role

Job summary

The post-holder is required to provide assistance to people with gender dysphoria or diversity. This will involve utilising psychological principles and approaches in assessment, diagnosis and management of gender dysphoria or diversity. The postholder will need to work closely with the multidisciplinary team and be familiar with medical as well as psychological models. There is an expectation for the postholder to engage in research and ongoing continuing professional development

To provide specialist psychological assessments of allocated clients. Assessments will be based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members, nursing staff and others involved in the patient's care. Practitioner psychology assessments will, at times, need to be conducted using interpreters. To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of client's presenting issues or mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's situation, and to employ methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses. To exercise responsibility for the treatment of and discharge of clients whose presenting issue is managed through the medium of a psychologically based standard care plan which ensures appropriate assessment, formulation, and interventions. This will involve communicating with the referral agent and others involved with the care on a regular basis.
