About this role

Job summary

An Orthopaedic Arthroplasty Fellow post is available to commence August/ September 2026.

The successful candidate will join a department of 30 orthopaedic surgeons with special interests in paediatrics, revision hip and knee surgery, shoulder and elbow, hand, soft tissue knee, foot and ankle and Major Trauma Centre trauma surgery. The successful candidates will work closely with the other orthopaedic surgeons and with other professions and departments.

The duties include adult elective orthopaedics in hip and knee arthroplasty and some trauma surgery commitment with no formal out of hours commitments.

Assist in management of the local and regional arthroplasty and bone and joint infection MDTs.

A specialist interest in hip and knee arthroplasty and revision arthroplasty would be an advantage.

The successful postholder will have a minimum of 4 years specialist orthopaedic training with significant hip and knee surgery experience.

You will join an expanding department of currently 30 consultants supported by @ 44 StR Higher/Lower doctors and a very active orthopaedic care of the elderly team.

Your timetable will consist of

1.5 research/admin sessions per week 2 out-patient clinics per week (new and follow-up) 4 elective arthroplasty theatre sessions per week 0.5 general trauma sessions per week (with any consultant, or as the surgeon) For further details / informal visits contact:

Education, Qualifications & Special Training Essential

FRCS (Tr &Orth) or equivalent

Desirable

Other qualifications in Orthopaedics

Knowledge & Expereience Essential

Minimum of 4 years specialist orthopaedic training with significant hip and knee surgery experience oGood general knowledge of orthopaedic surgery

Desirable

Previous experience in joint replacement surgery oTeaching experience

Other Factors Essential

Understanding that research is essential for the development of Orthopaedic joint replacement surgery and desire to take part in research oRegistration with GMC

Desirable

Understand principles, evidence of enthusiasim or participation, understanding of relevance of some research which has been undertaken . Management skills - shows interest, enthusiasim or demonstrates ability.
