About this role

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our friendly pharmacy team. The right candidate should be a GPhC registered pharmacy technician who is committed, enthusiastic, hardworking and has great attention to detail. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the existing weekend and bank holiday rotas within the pharmacy dispensary.

They will also have a chance to rotate around the different areas of hospital pharmacy and gain a wealth of experience; working in dispensary, ward based medicines management and technical services.

At Wye Valley NHS Trust, trainee pharmacists and trainee pharmacy technicians must be within the final six months of their training programme to be considered for employment in substantive roles. This ensures that candidates have attained the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to transition effectively into a professional role within our team. Any offers of employment are subject to attaining GPhC registration within the specified time frame.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this job role is to work within the Pharmacy Department across the Dispensary, Ward Based services and Technical services, following the written procedures in place for each area of the pharmacy department.

Service Delivery Responsibilities

To become proficient in working in technical services so that they are able to train other colleagues when working in these areas.

To undertake qualified Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) duties, including dispensary and ward-based accuracy checking, in accordance with local governance and competency standards.

To dispense medicines for inpatients, outpatients and for discharge including Controlled Drugs

Nationally recognised Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification or included as part of the Pharmacy Technician qualification post 2022 or willingness to undertake training which will enable you to -

o Performing a 'final' accuracy check on dispensed items (including controlled drugs) and external orders

o Participate in daily accuracy checking slots

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ3 Pharmacy Technician/Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician Nationally recognised Accuracy Checking Technician Qualification or included as part of the Pharmacy Technician qualification post 2022 or willingness to undertake within agreed timeframe

Skills Essential

IT literate Ability to manage own workload when working alone and when working as part of a team Able to work well to written procedures Excellent communication and ability to interact with all levels of staff and patients with varying needs Good attention to detail and accuracy

Experience Essential

Able to work flexibly as part of the rotational role
