About this role

Job summary

To work across HMP Hull and HMP Humber Prisons assessing patients at risk of and/or diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection and/or a Blood Borne Virus. This is a full time role with the expectation to work 0.8 wte at Hull and 0.2 wte at Humber.

The role expectation is case managing from assessment of patients to testing, treatment, education and harm minimisation. Provide pre and post test discussion for Blood Borne Viruses and see clients in the prison GUM setting for crisis intervention and time limited counselling.

The post holder will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team.

Main duties of the job

Provide information and health education for clients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections and blood borne viruses. To liaise with the appropriate authorities to facilitate partner notification/management/referral to GUM community clinics as required. Attend multidisciplinary meetings as required with other related health professionals. Offer information and support and deal with enquiries from health professionals about Sexually Transmitted Infections, including HIV and AIDS. Due to the specialist nature of this service, a non-judgemental and positive attitude is necessary. To develop and maintain effective communication and liaison with medical, nursing and paramedical members of staff and working in close co-operation for the benefit of patients in order to improve services at the Clinic and STI services in general. Build therapeutic working relationships with patients ensuring boundaries are always in place.

Registered practitioner holding relevant registration with governing body e.g. NMC. Holds a Specialist accredited qualification in Sexual Health Nursing Previous experience as a nurse in a GUM clinic or equivalent setting To have a good knowledge of STI / HIV To have knowledge / experience of health education, particularly sexual health and safer sex education Phlebotomy skills. Good understanding of the National Sexual Health Agenda. Experience of nurse led clinics Ability to use of PGDs for the both Sexually Transmitted Infections and Contraception Has effective communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literate, able to use Electronic Patient Records and type effectively.Has clear positive and credible professional leadership skills Flexiable with regards to working patterns and places of work. Access to transport to be able to cross site work.

Desirable

Past experience of working within secure environment. Non-medical Prescriber Holds a recognised teaching course/qualification. Experience in a field of nursing with transferable knowledge and skills e.g gynaecology/urology/public health nursing. Specialist knowledge and skills relating to the detection and treatment of blood borne viruses and sexually transmitted infections
