Job summary
The pain management service has been well established within Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust (MYTT) for over 25 years. It is a multi-disciplinary team delivering pain management to patients within MYTT. Out-patient services and day case treatments are provided at Pontefract Hospital and the Surgical Hub at Dewsbury District Hospital. Acute and complex pain management service is provided for in-patients at Pinderfields Hospital. This is a cross-Trust post. We are a small friendly team that value each other and the contributions we all make. We are passionate about providing excellent quality, safe and effective pain management for the patients within our service.
You will be part of the pain management team actively contributing to assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating plans of acute or chronic pain management for patients within MYTT. Other duties include teaching, practice development, audit and networking. This will involve working closely with other registered nurses and clinical support workers within the team, as well as consultants, physiotherapists, administration and clerical staff.
Main duties of the job
As a pain management sister/charge nurse, your day-to-day responsibilities include:
Working alongside consultants in pain treatment sessions at Pontefract Hospital and The Surgical Hub at Dewsbury (this will involve wearing lead PPE for up to 3 hours at a time)Conducting review clinics for pain out-patients.Supervising Clinical Support Workers in the Pain Clinic.Supervising/mentoring students on placement within the pain team.Assessing patients referred with acute pain issues at Pinderfields Hospital.

Qualifications
1st level Registered Nurse. Current NMC registration. Recognised teaching and assessing qualification Experience
Significant post-registration experience, ideally with experience in an acute area. Experience of caring for patients with pain management pumps such as PCA and epidural. Evidence of participating in the development of patient care. Knowledge and Awareness
Acute pain assessment and interventions, in particular analgesic drugs, PCA and epidural pumps. Current NHS publications relating to pain management. Ability to critique research and apply findings appropriately Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods. Evidence of networking locally, regionally and nationally. Skills and Abilities
Manage time effectively and be able to prioritise workload. High level of communication skills in dealing with patients, relatives and colleagues. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrates leadership skills. Ability to motivate self and others. Evidence of effecting change in working practices. Works on own initiative.
