About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Pharmacy Technician to join our team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, motivated and qualified candidate who will play a key role in supporting medicines optimisation, ensuring safe, effective and cost-efficient prescribing, and improving patient outcomes across the practice population.

Main duties of the job

To support the surgerys clinical team on a part-time basis by managing medicines optimisation, improving prescription safety, and reducing the administrative prescribing burden on GPs. The postholder will use EMIS Web to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care within their professional scope of practice.

Kirkham Health Centre is a well-established, patient centred GP surgery situated in the market town of Kirkham within the Fylde Coast area. We have a patient population of 9,800 patients, covering a mixed urban and rural area.

We own our own building and have an extensive primary care team comprising of 4 GP Partners,1salaried GP, 3 ANPs, 4 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, 1 Nursing Associate, Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescriber, Mental Health Practitioner and a supportive Administration and Reception team.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming practice who are committed to delivering high quality care to our patients. Our triage system coordinated by our Advanced Nurse Practitioner team allows for excellent access to services. We are active members of our local Primary Care Network, perform well in QOF and are rated "Good" by the CQC.

Job description Job responsibilities

Liaising with local pharmacies and hospitals regarding prescribing queries, optimum therapy, to improve prescribing safety, quality, cost effectiveness

Process and update patient medication from hospital discharge and clinic letters

To action and process medication alerts, raising awareness within the practice

To help plan, develop and support the introduction of new working processes within the practice to optimise the quality of prescribing.

To oversee patients on shared care drugs, ensuring recalls and protocols in place to ensure safety and appropriate use of medicines and their management

To support the Clinical Pharmacist to provide medication reviews, patient information leaflets and cost effectiveness of prescribing.

To ensure maintenance of accurate patient records and ensure all relevant information is documented in the patients medical records in a timely manner

To help plan, develop and support the introduction of new working processes within the practice to optimise the quality of prescribing

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (or equivalent).

Desirable

Enrolled in or completed the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Technician Pathway.

Experience Essential

Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience

Desirable

Prior experience managing part-time workflows or job-sharing in a GP surgery. Hands-on experience using EMIS Web in a primary care setting.

Knowledge and skills Essential

Excellent time-management skills to maximise part-time hours. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

Ability to build custom EMIS search templates for clinical audits Proficiency in EMIS prescribing modules and task management.
