Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Oral Surgery Department at Bristol Dental Hospital as aSpecialty Dentist in Oral Surgery. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic dentist to develop their experience within a busy specialist Oral Surgery service while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality Oral Surgery care, including referral triage, outpatient assessment and treatment, dentoalveolar surgery under local anaesthetic, oral biopsy procedures, and participation in intravenous sedation and paediatric general anaesthetic services where appropriate. The post holder will also support the Emergency Dental Service and play an active role in service development, quality improvement and clinical governance activities.Working within a supportive and progressive department, you will collaborate closely with colleagues from Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine, Restorative Dentistry, Special Care Dentistry and Paediatric Dentistry, helping to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.This position is ideally suited to a dentist with hospital-based Oral Surgery experience who is looking to further develop their clinical skills within a specialist environment. Opportunities are available to participate in audit, research, service evaluation and professional development activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications, Training and Experience Essential
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent recognised dental qualification. Full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) and licence to practise. Completion of Dental Foundation Training (or equivalent). Completion of Dental Foundation Training (or equivalent). Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD). Experience of delivering clinical care in a hospital or specialist dental environment. Experience in the assessment and management of patients requiring Oral Surgery treatment. Experience of undertaking dentoalveolar surgical procedures. Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Experience of teaching or supervising dental students or junior colleagues.
Desirable
Additional postgraduate qualification relevant to Oral Surgery. Completion of Dental Core Training Year 3 (DCT3) or equivalent experience. Sedation qualification or evidence of training in conscious sedation. Membership of a relevant Royal College or postgraduate diploma. Experience of referral triage and management of patient pathways. Experience of intravenous sedation services. Experience of treatment planning and management of complex Oral Surgery cases. Experience of Emergency Dental Service provision. Experience of service development initiatives.
Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential
Sound knowledge of Oral Surgery principles and practice. Ability to assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for Oral Surgery patients. Competence in routine dentoalveolar surgery under local anaesthesia. Understanding of patient safety, consent and risk management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records. IT skills appropriate for modern clinical practice.
Desirable
Experience in oral biopsy procedures. Experience in conscious sedation techniques. Knowledge of current Oral Surgery guidelines and best practice. Experience of managing complex Oral Surgery patients.
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research Essential
Understanding of clinical governance principles. Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement activities. Knowledge of incident reporting, patient safety and risk management processes. Commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical care. Understanding of the principles of evidence-based practice. Ability to critically appraise clinical literature and apply findings to patient care.
