This is a PRN/as needed Mohs Technician position for Dean Medical Group in Janesville. This role is based at the Janesville clinic with travel to support procedures at the Madison East clinic.

This role is responsible for processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and preparing tissue specimens in a timely manner to facilitate accurate evaluation by the physician.

The Mohs Histotechnician generally supports one Mohs Surgeon independently. When partnered with another technician, the team may support 2-3 surgeons simultaneously to ensure efficient patient flow and timely slide preparation.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

• Completion of a Histotechnician, Histology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related laboratory training program, or equivalent experience.

• Experience performing frozen section histology, microtomy, embedding, and staining procedures.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgical environment.

• HT (ASCP) certification.

• Previous experience supporting Mohs micrographic surgery.

• Dermatology, lab, or surgical pathology experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of histology laboratory practices and quality controls.

• Proficiency with cryostats and histology equipment.

• Ability to prioritize multiple cases and maintain workflow during surgical procedures.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to travel between clinic locations as required.

Job Summary: Performs general histological duties under direct supervision, according to established procedures as well as preparation of histologic slides for microscopic examination and diagnosis by the pathologist.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collects, labels, processes and preserves tissue specimens according to established laboratory procedures. • Prepares sections of tissue for immediate examination, using frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain specimens. • Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the pathologist. • May perform embedding, cutting, and staining of tissues and pathology specimens received, with assistance. • May perform basic histology special stains using manual or automated methods as appropriate, with assistance. • May maintain equipment in histology as required, with assistance. Cleans and maintains adequate laboratory supplies and work areas. • Performs general histological duties as well as cytology specimen prep work. • Analyzes and records data. Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab. • Maintains competencies and continuing education to keep informed of new developments in field. • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. • Frequent keyboard use/data entry. • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping. • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. • Rare climbing.
