Position Summary The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of marine construction and commercial diving projects by coordinating project documentation, schedules, procurement, subcontractors, quality control activities, and communication between the office and field operations. Working closely with the Project Manager and Field Superintendent, the Project Engineer helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contract requirements, company procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. This position is ideal for someone looking to grow into a Project Manager role while gaining hands-on experience in marine construction.

Location: This role will be directly supporting an upcoming project in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Project Coordination • Assist the Project Manager in planning and executing construction projects from award through closeout. • Maintain project schedules and track milestone completion. • Coordinate communication between the Project Manager, Superintendent, field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and clients. • Prepare meeting agendas and document meeting minutes. • Monitor project progress and identify potential schedule impacts. Contract Administration • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and submittals. • Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs). • Track submittals and approvals. • Assist with preparation and pricing of change orders. • Maintain project logs including: o RFIs o Submittals o Change Orders o Meeting Minutes o Correspondence o Action Items Procurement • Assist with purchasing materials and equipment. • Coordinate material deliveries with project schedules. • Track procurement status to prevent project delays. • Verify quantities and deliveries. • Coordinate rentals and specialty equipment. Financial Support • Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking. • Review vendor invoices for accuracy. • Track committed costs. • Assist with monthly project forecasting. • Monitor labor and equipment productivity. Field Support • Conduct regular job-site visits. • Support field teams by resolving documentation and technical issues. • Coordinate material shortages. • Assist with project planning and logistics. • Verify work is progressing according to schedule. Quality Control • Assist with implementation of project quality control plans. • Coordinate inspections. • Track punch list items. • Ensure required testing and documentation are completed. • Maintain project quality records. Safety Support • Promote company safety culture. • Participate in safety meetings. • Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and project planning. • Support compliance with OSHA, USACE, NAVFAC, USCG, and company safety requirements. • Report unsafe conditions to project leadership. Documentation Maintain accurate project records including: • Daily Reports • Production Reports • Material Tracking • Equipment Logs • Safety Documentation • Inspection Reports • Schedule Updates • As-built Documentation • Closeout Documents Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred. • Equivalent construction experience may be considered. • 2–5 years of construction experience preferred. • Marine, heavy civil, bridge, or industrial construction preferred. • Valid driver's license. • Must be able to pass a background check to obtain access to MilitaryNaval bases. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong organizational skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Ability to manage multiple priorities. • Strong problem-solving abilities. • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications. • Knowledge of construction scheduling. • Detail-oriented. • Ability to work independently and within a team. • Professional interaction with clients and subcontractors. Preferred Experience Experience working on projects for: • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) • NAVFAC • Port Authorities • Municipal infrastructure • Marine construction Software Skills Preferred experience with: • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) • Microsoft Project • Primavera P6 (preferred) • Adobe Acrobat Physical Requirements • Ability to visit active construction sites. • Ability to walk on uneven terrain, docks, barges, and marine facilities. • Ability to climb ladders and board vessels when necessary. • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Success in This Role A successful Project Engineer: • Plans ahead and stays organized. • Communicates effectively with both field and office personnel. • Anticipates problems before they affect production. • Maintains accurate and timely documentation. • Supports project budgets and schedules. • Builds strong working relationships with superintendents, subcontractors, and clients. • Demonstrates accountability and a commitment to safety. • Continuously develops the skills needed to advance into a Project Manager role.

Where required by applicable law, UMX provides a good-faith salary or hourly wage range in its job postings. Compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, education, skills, certifications, geographic location, and business needs. $80,000 - $95,000
