About this role
About the role:
The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining firmware and software for Safetrust's IoT platform, leveraging BLE, Wi-Fi, and other cutting-edge technologies. This position plays a key role in the product development team, ensuring new and existing embedded products are reliable, performant, and shippable.
This role focuses on execution and quality — writing and debugging embedded C/C++, collaborating on automated testing, and optimizing performance — and contributes to Safetrust's continued growth by helping revolutionize physical access control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain firmware/software for new and existing embedded products.
• Develop and debug code in C and C++.
• Collaborate on automated unit and integration testing to ensure product quality.
• Optimize software performance and reliability for embedded systems.
• Work cross-functionally with hardware, QA, and cloud teams to deliver complete features.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for Safetrust's IoT access control products using C/C++.
• Develop firmware for BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, NFC, and other wireless communication technologies used across Safetrust products.
• Implement and optimize firmware running on ARM-based microcontrollers including Nordic, STM32, Cypress, and ESP platforms.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain RTOS-based applications, drivers, middleware, and communication stacks.
• Design and implement communication interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, and GPIO.
• Debug complex firmware, hardware, and integration issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and other embedded development tools.
• Optimize firmware performance, memory utilization, power consumption, and reliability to support battery-powered and always-on devices.
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineering throughout board bring-up, prototype validation, manufacturing support, and product verification.
• Develop automated unit tests, integration tests, and regression testing to improve firmware quality and reduce production defects.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with Cloud, Mobile, QA, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to deliver complete product features.
• Support manufacturing and field teams by investigating production issues, customer-reported defects, and firmware updates.
• Maintain technical documentation including firmware architecture, interface specifications, troubleshooting guides, and release documentation.
• Continuously evaluate new embedded technologies, development tools, communication protocols, and industry best practices that improve Safetrust products.
Skills & Experience:
• B.S., M.S., or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in embedded firmware and application development (4+ for Senior).
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ programming.
• Solid understanding of software compilers and debugging tools.
• Knowledge of software architecture and design patterns for embedded systems.
• Proficiency in data structures and algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with BLE, Wi-Fi, LTE, and ARM MCUs (Nordic, STM, Cypress, ESP).
• Familiarity with communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI).
• Understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).
• Logical thinking, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork skills.
Nice to Have / Preferred
• Familiarity with Python, C#, or similar additional languages.
• Knowledge of high-level protocols (MQTT, REST APIs).
• Proactive learning attitude and adaptability to new technologies.
Success Profile:
The ideal candidate is:
• Detail-oriented and disciplined about embedded code quality and reliability.
• Proactive and adaptable to new technologies and shifting priorities.
• A strong communicator who collaborates well with hardware, QA, and cloud teams.
• Able to execute independently on firmware features from spec to ship.
• Comfortable working across regions and functions in a global environment (Vietnam, US, Australia).
