About this role

Job Purpose

To inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain forklifts and other material handling equipment, ensuring maximum equipment availability, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety standards to support uninterrupted terminal, warehouse, and logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on forklifts and other material handling equipment.

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.

• Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, hydraulics, batteries, and electrical systems.

• Conduct routine inspections and servicing according to manufacturer recommendations.

• Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and respond promptly to minimize operational downtime.

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair logs.

• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, company policies, and OEM standards.

• Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and lifespan.

• Inspect tires, forks, chains, mast assemblies, batteries, and safety devices to ensure operational readiness.

• Support equipment commissioning, testing, and performance verification after repairs.

• Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory.

• Coordinate with operations teams to schedule equipment maintenance with minimal disruption.

• Report recurring equipment faults and recommend corrective actions.

• Maintain good housekeeping practices within the workshop and maintenance areas.

• Qualifications

• National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Trade Test Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related discipline.

• Relevant technical certifications in forklift maintenance are an added advantage.

Experience

• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience maintaining forklifts, reach stackers, or other material handling equipment.

• Experience in ports, terminals, warehouses, manufacturing plants, or logistics operations is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of diesel, LPG, and electric forklifts.

• Good understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

• Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices.

• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.

• Strong troubleshooting and fault diagnosis skills.
