The Opportunity | Te Whai Wāhitanga
As Team Leader Transport and Roading, you'll provide leadership for Council's transport and roading activities, ensuring our network continues to support our people, businesses, and visitors safely and effectively.
Working within the Infrastructure Operations and Capital Works department, you’ll play a key role in both day‑to‑day operations and the delivery of capital and renewal projects, in partnership with operations engineers, project managers and the Project & Procurement Adviser.
You’ll:
• Lead a capable operations team and support their development
• Manage key contractor relationships and performance
• Contribute to long‑term planning and business cases
• Help shape the future of transport in Buller through strategic programme delivery
• Support the integration of new capital works into asset management systems (RAMM/GIS)
This role offers a unique mix of:
• Leadership and people development
• Transport planning and asset management
• Contract and project management (operations and capital works)
• Stakeholder and community engagement
• Strategic infrastructure planning
• Budget oversight and programme delivery
What You'll Bring | Ō Pūkenga me Ō Wheako We're looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong leadership skills.
Essential:
• A qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least five years' relevant post-qualification experience.
• Strong contract and project management experience.
• Proven leadership capability and the ability to build strong relationships.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience managing budgets and work programmes.
• Strong computer literacy, including Excel and RAMM.
Desirable:
• STMS qualification.
• Experience working within local government.
