About this role

Job summary

Clinical Engineering provides a clinical scientific / technical support service to clinicalusers of patient connected diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment throughoutthe trust. A particularly high level of support is provided to critical care areas such asICU, operating theatres, neonatal intensive care, coronary care areas, where thepotential for patient harm is greater.

Clinical Engineering also has a lead role in safety critical areas when medicalequipment is used. This includes: the adaptation of existing equipment; investigation of adverse incidents (adverse events and near misses involving medical equipment)and initiating appropriate action; determining necessary action required followingreceipt of DoH Safety Notices and ensuring that the work is completed; contributionto the training of clinical staff in the safe use of medical equipment.

Main duties of the job

Applications are welcomed from candidates who do not currently hold formal registration, or who are working towards technician-level competence, where they can demonstrate the required values, aptitude, experience, and ability to meet the relevant essential criteria.

Candidates who do not hold current formal registration should review the Band 4 Trainee Job Description and Person Specification. Where a candidate meets the requirements for the Band 4 Trainee role, appointment may be made at that level, subject to the outcome of a fair and consistent recruitment process. Where appropriate, apprenticeship, inhouse training, and structured training routes may be supported in line with service needs, role requirements, and organisational policy. Progression into a more senior role, such as a Band 6 post, would not be automatic. Any future appointment to a higher-banded role would be subject to an open, fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process, in line with UK employment law, equality legislation, NHS recruitment standards, and local organisational policy. Candidates would be assessed against the agreed job description, person specification, and role requirements at the time of recruitment.

The post-holder provides a calibration, maintenance and repair service to critical care areas, Operating Theatres, Accident & Emergency, Endoscopy, medical wards and outpatient departments. Post is based at Lincoln County Hospital but travel to other ULTH sites is required.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

A-Level or equivalent Level 3 qualification in science, engineering or maths. Alternatively, equivalent level of experience

Desirable

Degree in engineering

Previous Experience Essential

Practical engineering experience Able to communicate complex information across professional boundaries.

Desirable

Workshop practices and techniques. Independent practice including preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, calibration, quality control, safety. Understanding of the clinical application of a wide range of general medical devices and how the design achieves that safely. Electrical Safety Testing

Knowledge and Skills Essential
