About this role

Job summary This busy purpose built Haematology/Oncology Unit is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate Deputy ward sisterwith good organisational and communication skills, to compliment the existing team . Day-care Unit comprised of 14 chair treatment area, a private patient room, and many clinic rooms. The day unit is very busy seeing approx 250 patients per week. This role requires NMC Registration.Base Locations: Royal Bournemouth HospitalInterview date: Thursday, 6th August 2026

Main duties of the job o To support the ward sister in managing the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care. o To participate in the development of patient pathways, policies and protocols, to enable changes in practice to be achieved, implemented, evaluated and disseminated. o To be involved in the development of the Haematology and Oncology Cancer Nursing Service, in collaboration with the MDT, to meet patient and service needs. o To build effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary teams within and across providers, to meet patient and service needs, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views. o To provide, receive, interpret and communicate complex information with a range of health care personnel. o To ensure that all LERNs are investigated in a timely manner and in accordance with Trust policy and to escalate appropriately incidents following investigation of complaints or LERNs. o To ensure all staff are provided with individual and team feedback on reported incidents and the actions take and to disseminate widely any learning points to the whole team.

Job description Job responsibilities To assist the sister / charge nurse to lead and manage the development of and the provision of a high quality nursing service and environment for the Haematology Oncology Day Unit Service. To provide specialist nursing knowledge, expertise and advice, facilitating the provision of evidence based patient centred care pathways and packages. Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the sister /charge nurse. To establish a balance between clinical and managerial demands so as to maintain clinical credibility. To maintain an established communication and professional working relationship between site and haematology and oncology at both Poole and The Royal Bournemouth Hospital. To actively seek to resolve arising concerns and complaints to support the patient experience and quality agenda and to support other members to do so.

Qualifications Essential

NMC registered Nurse. Recognised teaching qualification. Degree/Masers level Specialist course.,sact training

Desirable

1st level degree or working towards. Physical Examination of the Adult. Advanced Communication Skills / Counselling course.

Experience Essential

Demonstrable experience within Haematology and Oncology. Experience of multi-professional working. Experience of teaching.

Experience of audit and research.

Technical/clinical competencies relevant to practice role including IV drug administration, cannulation and phlebotomy, accessing central lines, Administration of chemotherapy.
