About this role

Job summary

Day-to-day planned preventative maintenance and reactive works to the building fabric and associated equipment found across an acute hospital and community environment, with a carpentry and building bias. The post holder will keep systems and fabric in line with agreed service levels and respond to site emergencies, and will undertake small installation works, repairs to building fabric, joinery and handyman duties as necessary.

The post holder shall be an active member of an effective and efficient multi-skilled trade workshop and must demonstrate flexible working and co-operation with other trades. They will be required from time to time to visit off-site community premises for both planned and reactive maintenance tasks; these premises are part of Whittington Health. The post holder must be capable of working on their own initiative and working safely within current regulations

Main duties of the job

Carry out planned preventative maintenance routines and reactive maintenance works as instructed by the Supervisor, providing feedback to line management using various forms of communication.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson (Carpentry Bias) is responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs and minor installation works across Whittington Health's hospital and community estate. The post holder will undertake a wide range of carpentry, joinery and general building fabric maintenance to ensure Trust buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose for patients, staff and visitors.

Working as part of the Estates Maintenance Team, the post holder will carry out repairs to doors, fire doors, locks, windows, ceilings, flooring, partitions, shelving and other building fabric, as well as minor decorating and general maintenance duties. The role also requires flexibility to undertake basic maintenance tasks across other trade disciplines where trained and competent.

The post holder will work independently and as part of a multi-skilled team, responding to planned and reactive maintenance requests, maintaining accurate maintenance records and ensuring all work is completed safely in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, Trust policies, COSHH and Permit to Work procedures.

The successful candidate will provide a professional and customer-focused service, communicate effectively with clinical and non-clinical staff, support emergency maintenance when required, participate in mandatory training and undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the grade to support the efficient operation of the Estates Department.
