About this role

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist in Trauma and Orthopaedics to join the team at Northampton General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group.

The post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality trauma and elective orthopaedic care, including the surgical management of trauma patients and participation in outpatient clinics.

Ideal candidate will be independent in lower limb procedures both elective and trauma.

The role offers the opportunity to work closely with consultant colleagues, undertake independent trauma surgery within a rota, and support elective pathways.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in orthopaedics at Registrar level or above within the NHS, excellent clinical and communication skills, and a strong commitment to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

Deliver high-quality trauma and elective orthopaedic care within the Directorate

Assess, manage and undertake surgical treatment of trauma patients, including independent operating

Participate in the trauma theatre rota, including out-of-hours working where required

Run elective outpatient clinics and maintain outpatient waiting lists

Support the delivery and optimisation of elective care pathways

Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives

Undertake administrative duties related to clinical activity and service delivery

Work collaboratively with consultants, multidisciplinary teams, and wider colleagues

Participate in teaching, training, and continued professional development

Engage in research and service development where appropriate.

Education, Training and Qualifications Essential

Full GMC registration MRCS or in the process of completing more than 5 years experience at reg level
