SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST WELLBEING HUB, NRN, NOTTINGHAM, TEMP TILL SEPT 2028, 35HRS, A4C BAND 6, £ 39,959 - £48,117, FTE

We created the Speech and Language Therapist post in recognition of the importance of communication to support the engagement, assessment and treatment of people we support. The previous postholder has laid a foundation for SLT through the training of staff to develop their understanding of communication and communication disorders generally, and working to implement the Accessible Information Standard. We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist who can continue to build on this work. The post holder will work closely with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist to give advice and guidance to teams on how to tailor interventions for individuals. They will have a small caseload for individual assessment of people who need it most.

Through the local Severe and Multiple Disadvantage Partnership, there will be opportunities to extend the understanding of communication needs throughout Nottingham City agencies to those experiencing combinations of homelessness, substance use, mental health problems, offending and / or domestic and sexual violence and abuse.

As the sole Speech and Language Therapist in the service, regular external support will be provided and we have good connections with Speech and Language Therapists experienced in homelessness settings.

3. Main Job Duties and Responsibilities

To:

Actively lead the implementation of the Accessible Information Standard across the organisation.

Support the teams within Nottingham Recovery Network to better understand communication needs and adapt their practice to enhance engagement, assessment and treatment of individuals.

Develop and deliver training and coaching to colleagues within the organisation and key partnership agencies.

Offer consultation to colleagues and participate in multidisciplinary team formulation meetings and provide recommendations to influence the approach to individuals accessing the service.

Hold a small caseload for assessment of needs relating to speech, language, and communication and provision of written reports and recommendations. The service does not have a remit to conduct Autism assessments so this will not be required.

Promote speech and language therapy for inclusion health groups (e.g. those experiencing homelessness, learning disabilities, brain injury, substance use) in a variety of ways both within the organisation and externally.

Highlight and positively challenge communication discrimination.

Participate in evaluation of the SLT service, with close support from other colleagues with research skills.

Participate in collaborative working practices with a wide range of organisations and people.

Where appropriate, support Student SLTs on placement, volunteers and other staff in the organisation.

Uphold the professional standards of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health and Care Professions Council.

Flexible working patterns can be considered and some remote working supported.

5. Breadth of the role

The postholder will be required to plan and organise their own work whilst working closely with colleagues across a range of teams within Nottingham Recovery Network. The post holder will need to impart specialist professional expertise in relation to individuals accessing the service, populations (e.g. those with brain injury or learning disabilities), and to support the implementation of the Accessible Information Standard across the organisation.

The postholder will need to demonstrate flexibility and autonomy when managing their workload, and will be required to hold a small caseload and deliver consultation and training alongside wider service development projects. Close strategic support will be provided to ensure the role is both manageable and impactful.

7. Key relationships (internal and external)

To build professional working relationships with staff at all levels, stakeholders, partner and outside agencies etc. to achieve the overall purpose of the role. The key external relationship/s will be with other Speech and Language Therapists, including a clinical supervisor. As the sole Speech and Language Therapist in the organisation, professional networking outside the organisation will be given protected time.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Significant post-qualification experience. Experience of working independently and carrying an individual caseload for assessment. Willingness to take responsibility and ownership workload. Committed to continuous service improvement. Excellent organisational skills and proven ability of working within policies, procedures, standards, guidance, and legal frameworks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to use concise and accessible language. Building effective working relationships with colleagues and people accessing services. Ability to use supervision, identify own learning needs, and use a range of professional development opportunities. Values diversity, perspectives and culture and works effectively with people regardless of appearance or beliefs.

Desirable

Experience of working with socially excluded groups, e.g. those experiencing homelessness, mental health problems, contact with the criminal justice system. Ability to strategically plan and implement service development projects, with close support from senior management. Ability to analyse data and use it in insightful and informative ways.

Qualifications Essential

GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths Qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist and completed RCSLT NQP competencies. Registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council Understanding of Accessible Information Standard

Desirable

Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
