Job summary

Band 8C Associate Director of Nursing: Patient Safety

The post holder will have a leadership role, reporting to the Deputy Chief Nurse and working closely with senior leaders, clinicians and managers across the Trust to ensure that services are safe and effective. They will create an environment, which promotes and supports patient safety and high-quality care.

The role is responsible for the management of quality, and patient safety across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. This encompasses clinical effectiveness, and incident management, learning from incidents and compliance. The post holder is overall accountable for all the services provided by the Patient Safety Team, & Tissue Viability Team.

Associate Director of Nursing will provide strategic direction to the Trusts patient safety providing expert advice and guidance throughout the Trust. The post holder will lead and deliver on a range of patient safety & quality projects and contributing to the wider Trust Quality Strategy, Risk Strategy and compliance with the Care Quality Commissions standards.

Advise the Trust Board of any risk, patient safety concerns which would have the potential to impact on CQC compliance requirements.

The role is responsible for direct management of the Safety, Datix, Tissue Viability, Team.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Director of Nursing will provide organisational wide leadership in shaping the on going direction of the patient safety strategy.

To lead the development of priorities for PSIRF education and training raising awareness of patient safety and risk management across the Trust in line with the Trust Training Needs Analysis

Accountable for leading, planning and delivery of patient safety improvement work streams (including NHS Safety Strategy) across the organisation in partnership with clinical leads and external with other providers or organisations to improve safety.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Active registration with a relevant regulatory body in the UK Master's degree in healthcare/nursing or equivalent extensive senior experience

Experience Essential

Substantial senior clinical leadership experience

Desirable

Evidence of proven ability to drive change management, resolve conflicts, and maintain emotional resilience in high-pressure, emotive environments Strong evidence of quality assurance, risk management, and regulatory compliance
