Join Barnsley Facilities Services (BFS) at Barnsley Hospital as a Medical Equipment Library Apprentice.
You will help ensure clinical teams have access to equipment to provide timely care, supporting supply and movement of medical devices across the Trust.
Duties include ordering and receiving equipment and consumables, maintaining stock records, distributing equipment, restocking clinical areas, and liaising with staff about their medical device needs.
Restocking is essential to patient care: by ensuring equipment is ready to use and in the right place at the right time, you will help reduce delays, support patient flow and enable teams to treat patients safely.
Based in the Medical Equipment Library within Engineering, you will learn about device management throughout the Trust. This role includes the opportunity to undertake a Level 2 apprenticeship in Healthcare Science with Clinical Engineering focus, helping you gain a qualification while developing workplace skills.
We welcome applicants from different backgrounds, especially those with an interest in electrics or electronics, responsibility and initiative.
The role is Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00, with study time.
The successful candidate must have Maths and English GCSE grade 4 or above (or equivalent) and must bring certificates to interview.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist with the running of the Medical Equipment Library, helping to ensure medical devices are available, safe, recorded and ready for use across the Trust.
Working under supervision as part of the Medical Engineering team, they will assist with supply, movement, checking and issuing of equipment to clinical areas, helping wards and departments access devices for safe and timely patient care.
Duties include locating equipment around the hospital, maintaining stock levels, carrying out visual safety checks, preparing devices with accessories, updating records, and supporting routine administration.
As training and competence develop, the post holder may assist with preventative maintenance, inspection, calibration and repair activities.
The role will involve liaising with clinical staff, porters, departments, manufacturers and suppliers to understand equipment needs, obtain information and support service delivery.
The post holder will maintain a tidy, organised library and workshop area, take care of tools and equipment, follow procedures, infection prevention, health and safety, confidentiality, data quality and information governance requirements, and complete mandatory training.
The role requires a responsible, organised and professional approach, communication skills, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and the ability to work as part of a team while supporting service improvement and patient care every day, safely.

Experience Desirable
Previous Admin & Clerical Experience. Previous experience of Microsoft packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook. Previous computer database input experience.
Qualifications Essential
Minimum GCSE English and Maths Grade C / 4 or Functional Skills English and Maths level 2 or above.

Working towards NVQ Level 1.
