Job summary
Tredegar Practice is looking to recruit a friendly, organised, and enthusiastic GP Reception Administrator to join our practice team. This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week over 4 days.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, has strong communication and organisational skills, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide a professional and welcoming reception service to patients and visitors while supporting the smooth running of the practice.
Main duties include:
Greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries. Booking, amending and cancelling appointments. Processing registrations and updating patient records. Managing incoming correspondence and completing administrative tasks. Working closely with GPs, nurses and the wider practice team to deliver an efficient service. Maintaining confidentiality and complying with practice policies at all times.

The GP Reception Administrator is responsible for providing an efficient reception and administrative service to patients, clinicians and colleagues. The post holder will be the first point of contact for patients, ensuring they provide a professional, courteous and welcoming service at all times.
Responsibilities include:
Greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Answering incoming telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries. Booking, amending and cancelling appointments using the practice clinical system. Registering new patients and updating patient records accurately. Processing incoming and outgoing correspondence. Managing repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures. Scanning, filing and coding clinical documents where appropriate. Taking payments and issuing receipts where required. Signposting patients to the most appropriate service or healthcare professional. Liaising with GPs, nurses and the wider practice team to support the smooth running of the practice. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring patient confidentiality at all times. Following practice policies, procedures and NHS guidelines. Supporting colleagues and undertaking additional administrative duties as required to meet the needs of the practice.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Experience of working in a customer-facing or administrative role.
Desirable
Previous experience working in a GP practice, NHS or healthcare setting. Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS Web. Knowledge of NHS primary care services.
Qualifications Essential
GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths
