Job summary
The role of GP Deputy Director is to work with and support the GP Director in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions relating to GP Education in Wales. The GP Deputy Director is professionally accountable to the Director of GP Education and is responsible for supporting the management of GP Education in the area. Responsibilities include developing policy and direction relating to GP training in liaison with GP Associate Deans and participating in a range of national and all Wales activities relating to medical education.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To support and advise the Dean as a member of The Medical Directorate
To lead on the management of differential attainment in the Medical Directorate
To advise the Postgraduate Dean on GP elements of standards for educational supervision
To support and deputise for the Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education at UK, Wales-wide and local meetings as required.
To act as the Managerial Lead of GP Foundation, Specialty & Further Training in Wales and to ensure that policies are communicated and implemented that reflect overall agreed strategy.
To work closely with the GP Associate Deans to ensure consistency and quality in GP Training in Wales.
To take a lead role in the development and evaluation of GP Training in Wales

Wales Wide Deanery Roles
To actively contribute as a member of the Medical Deanery leadership Group, providing regular advice and information concerning strategic developments and contributing to the medical Deanerys risk management process To lead the oversight of ensuring a comprehensive system of governance for the key processes in the training progression of postgraduate GP training in Wales

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowlege Essential
Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) or higher degree of equivalent status. Inclusion on the Medical Performers List at the time of application. Full GMC Registration. Knowledge of NHS systems and structures
Desirable
Knowledge of educational theory and practice. To hold a Medical Education qualification Research record.
Experience Essential
Proven organisational skills and evidence of effective workload management. Experience of programme planning and management of educational programmes in primary care. Understanding of the interface between primary and secondary care. Experience of chairing high level meetings To be a current GP Trainer.
Desirable
Minimum of five years' experience working in primary health care. Experience as a GP Programme Director. Experience as a GP Associate Dean.
Skills and Attributions Essential
Excellent interpersonal skills. Evidence of good working relationships with professional colleagues. Proven leadership skills. Good IT skills. Commitment to GP Training

Other Essential
Willingness and motivation to attend GP training related meetings and other activities elsewhere in Wales and the UK. Ability to travel Agreement from GP Partners or GP employer to undertake the GP Director role.
