Department Ward 18
Band 3 £25,272 - £27,476 Per annum, pro rata if part time
Band 3 salary will be dependent on having a NHS Care certificate. If you do not have this, you will start at Band 2 and be supported within the first 6 months to achieve it, once achieved you will move to Band 3.
Hours 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working and part time hours may be available
We are looking for multiple motivated, organised and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Healthcare Assistant. Additionally, we are a friendly team who support and encourage each other, all successful applicants must hold the same values. Ward 18 is a 29-bed elderly medicine ward specialising in Frailty & dementia care and whose patients are male only. We partner closely with the speech and language, dietetics, therapies, frailty & tissue viability teams to ensure our patients receive the specialist input they require. If you are dedicated to providing dignified and respectful care for some of the most vulnerable patients in our hospital then we will encourage you to apply.
You will need to have excellent communication skills in both verbal and recognition of non-verbal cues as many of our patients have cognitive impairments and often require enhanced observation. You will be able to work within a busy area whilst still maintaining high standards of care. Experience of working with patients with cognitive impairments would be beneficial however support and training will be provided to develop skills where required.
Under the supervision of Registered staff, the role of the Senior Healthcare Assistant is to undertake delegated clinical care duties, assist the nursing team and support Healthcare Assistants in the delivery of safe effective care to the patient.

Job description Job responsibilities
Undertake/assist patients with personal care duties as needed including bathing, toileting, dressing and feeding. Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained. Assess patient condition and wellbeing through clinical observations and test results, looking for signs of agitation or distress, reporting any concerns with patient condition to a senior member of staff, in accordance with the departments escalation process. Assist in the meeting of patients nutritional needs, ensuring patients who require assistance at mealtimes have a red tray. Assist in skin and pressure area care. Under the supervision of registered nurses ensure patients are helped to move position to prevent discomfort and/ pressure damage. Undertake clinical duties and record patient observations as requested by a registered professional, this could include taking blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, basic wound dressing changes, undertaking venepuncture and removing cannulas and catheters. Escalation of any concerns with regards to NEWS2 monitoring and patient condition changes. To complete relevant documentation, including updating patient records with patient information such as fluid balance, nutrition, height and weight, as necessary.
