About this role

Job Title: Staff AccountantJob DescriptionThe Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the close process, and ensuring timely and reliable financial reporting. This position performs detailed account reconciliations, analyzes financial data, supports audits and regulatory reporting, and partners with internal stakeholders to resolve accounting inquiries. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to process improvements, work with modern financial systems, and develop expertise in multi-currency reporting and financial statement analysis. Responsibilities • Perform detailed account reconciliations and thoroughly investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness. • Prepare and analyze financial reports and supporting schedules to provide clear and timely financial insights. • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger reviews. • Process and reconcile cash transactions and cash applications to maintain accurate general ledger records. • Maintain accurate general ledger records and supporting documentation in accordance with accounting policies. • Research and resolve accounting issues and outstanding balances in a timely and professional manner. • Assist with audits and regulatory reporting requirements by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries. • Partner with internal stakeholders to address accounting inquiries and provide clear explanations of financial data. • Support process improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance accuracy. • Perform data analysis to support decision-making and special projects as assigned. • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and reporting deadlines across all assigned tasks. Essential Skills • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. • 3+ years of accounting or finance experience. • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations. • Proficiency in financial reporting and preparation of supporting schedules. • Experience with cash application and reconciliation of cash transactions. • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and reconciliations. • Experience with bank reconciliations and month-end close activities. • Ability to work with multi-currency reporting and financial statement data. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records. • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines. • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow in the accounting field. • Experience using SAP or S/4HANA, or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Reinsurance, insurance, or broader financial services industry experience. • CPA certification or active progress toward CPA licensure (CPA-track). • Prior experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting processes. • Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives and financial data analysis. • Strong communication skills to effectively partner with internal stakeholders and address accounting inquiries. Work EnvironmentThis role follows a hybrid work schedule, with four days per week on site and Friday as a work-from-home day. The position operates in a professional office environment that utilizes SAP/S4 HANA and Microsoft Excel as core tools for financial reporting, general ledger management, and data analysis. The work involves regular collaboration with internal stakeholders across finance and other functions, as well as participation in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles. The environment emphasizes accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established accounting policies and procedures, while also encouraging continuous improvement and professional development. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
