Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent Closing Date: 30th July 2026 Interview Date: 7th August 2026 About the Role Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking an experienced Young Carer Lead to lead and implement the delivery of the Young Carers offer across Central Bedfordshire. This is a varied and rewarding role - we are seeking an individual with leadership and management experience, experience working with children and families and someone who is creative, dynamic and confident in building effective partnerships. This role sits at the centre of our Young Carers Service, ensuring that young carers are identified, safeguarded, assessed and supported and provided with opportunities that improve outcomes and wellbeing. You will have line management responsibility for our dedicated Young Carers Family Partners and will provide supervision, guidance and oversight of their work with children and families. The team delivers direct support, including assessments and ongoing support with individual young carers and you will ensure that practice is of a consistently high standard. You will oversee programme delivery and activity planning, supporting the design and development of creative and engaging activities for young carers, whilst leading on risk assessments for activities and events to ensure safe and high-quality provision. You will be responsible for ensuring that the service meets its statutory duties to young carers, promoting effective identification, assessment and support in line with local and national expectations. Working across Central Bedfordshire Council and partner organisations, you will raise awareness of young carers and support practitioners to recognise and respond effectively to their needs, including those caring for family members with disabilities, long term health needs, or mental health needs. You will have demonstrable experience of working with children and families and a strong understanding of the needs of young carers and/or marginalised groups. You will be confident in managing staff, overseeing practice and working collaboratively across services. You will be confident in influencing others, building effective partnerships and developing innovative approaches to engage young carers and ensure their voices are heard. You will be confident in being able to make safeguarding decisions regarding children. The role will include coordinating the delivery of Kids-Time, a specialist programme supporting families affected by parental mental health difficulties. The post holder will need to be flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends as required. This is an exciting time to join us.
