Job SummaryThis position is located in Seasonal Staffing Office-North Cascades National Park, in the Building and Utilities Division. The selectee will perform recurring building and or utility and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Major DutiesMajor Duties include WG-07: Operates platform trucks, van trucks, dump trucks, specialty pumping equipment and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight or more than 26,000 pound and up to 32,000 pounds. Transports passengers, supplies, materials or equipment and tools and tows various trailers and equipment. Performs general maintenance on motor vehicles. Performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with roads operations such as handling asphalt by shovel and rake and cleaning ditch lines and culverts, roadside brushing, garbage collection, striping and traffic flagging. Major Duties include WG-08: Operating multiple types of heavy engineering equipment inclusive of but not limited to: gasoline or diesel-powered heavy equipment, five cubic-yard dump trucks, road graders, and front-end loaders Operating heavy equipment to move and load material such as dirt, and other material. Operate vehicles with auxiliary attachments (e.g., mowers, sweeper, sanding units) to perform duties. Operate trucks and equipment with multiple operating functions like front loader/compactor trash trucks equipment. Operate various types of equipment and trucks on congested roadways, in inclement weather and on steep and narrow roadways. Loads, secures, and hauls equipment to and from project sites using truck and trailer. Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside with the majority of work being performed outside. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures. The operator is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, fumes, oils, solvents and cold and dampness. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Summer conditions could include noise, and potential hazards in the form of poisonous plants, insects, wild animals and snakes. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.RequirementsU.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Depending on the park you will be required to possess and maintain a current Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. Pinnacles National Park requires a Class B CDL with a passenger endorsement. You may be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or(c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
