Job SummaryAbout the Position: The incumbent serves in the Fires and Effects Branch (J356), Future Operations Division (J35), J3 Operations Directorate, U.S. Africa Command. As a Joint Fires and Effects Specialist, the incumbent integrates and synchronizes fires and targeting to support USAFRICOM operational objectives. Duties include contributing to planning and execution through the Joint Operation Planning Process in accordance with JP 5-0.
QualificationsPosition may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 36 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Applying on Time-Limited Assignments In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Executing of joint fires (kinetic and non-kinetic fires) in the overall joint targeting cycle; 2) Addressing emerging threats and crisis situations; AND 3) Devising solutions by assessing the effectiveness of joint efforts. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
Major DutiesParticipate in all relevant USAFRICOM boards/centers/cells/working groups in the conduct of planning for crisis and contingency operations.Contribute to cross-directorate teams that are responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing USAFRICOM activities and limited contingency response (LCR) operations.Train and instruct staff on relevant fires and targeting topics.
