Major DutiesThe incumbent serves as Industrial Equipment Mechanic. The tour of duty is Monday-Friday 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Duties include, but are not limited to: Troubleshoot, repair and overhaul automotive and industrial equipment such as garage sweepers and scrubbers, riding floor varnishers and scrubbers, forklifts and pallet jacks. Maintain and repair gasoline and diesel engines. Troubleshoot and installs alternators, clutches, drive shafts, propellers, bearings, struts, gauges, pumps and other components. Set up and operate machine tools to manufacture component parts or re-machine existing parts. Charge and service batteries. Change oil and replace filters. Remove, replace and repair and adjust parts such as belts, hoses, gaskets, seals, pumps, plugs, points, condensers, clutches, brakes, tires and wheels. Repair problems in electrical, hydraulic and vacuum systems. Reset circuit breakers; replace electronic control modules and diodes; clean, adjust and replace parts on vacuum and hydraulic pumps; adjust or replace mechanical and hydraulic transmissions. Repair mechanical and hydraulic baling machines and overhead garage door mechanisms. Remove and replace hydraulic cylinders. Replace seals and chain links. Adjust spring tension and limit switches. Repair small gasoline engines on power tools. Perform minor body repairs using body putty, fiberglass and other materials. Use measuring devices and test equipment and such as levels, feeler gauges and ampmeter to adjust and test equipment. Connect fuel lines, hose couplings, lubricating systems, steam lines and other power sources. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and other drawings as guidance Perform other related duties as assigned.RequirementsTo be employed by the Architect of the Capitol in a paid position, an individual must meet one of the categories below: A citizen of the United States; A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B); A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.
