BOKU UNIVERSITY The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Bioprocess Sciences and Engineering is currently seeking a 1 Postgraduate Research Associate project employment (Reference code 144) Extent of employment: 30 hours per week Duration of employment: 15th of August 2026, limited to 31st of December 2028 Workplace: 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 18 Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.832,10 (payable 14 times per year) Responsibilities º Start your PhD studies at BOKU University and participate one of our doctoral programs including lectures, events, workshops and retreats º Carry out research project "Understanding protein binding to filter materials used for clarification in bioprocesses" º Investigation the physio-chemical interaction of proteins with different filter materials º Analyzing protein-surface interactions by means of statistical experimentation and mechanistic modeling º Develop process modifications that reduce unwanted product losses while maintaining high particle retention º Use the high-throughout methods and a liquid handling station to quickly characterize and evaluate protein binding º Characterize colloids in plant extracts including host cell proteins and different, pharmaceutically relevant proteins using zetapotential, dynamic light scattering and microscopic analyses Required skills and qualifications º Diploma degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Engineering, Material Science or other equivalent university degree º English (B2 or better) Desirable skills and qualifications º Confidence in communicating and presenting scientific work to colleagues, at conferences and to public º Experience in writing scientific publications º Experience with filtration operations (e.g., depth filtration) º Experience with plant expression systems º Experience in working recombinant proteins º Experience mechanistic modeling of filtration processes Applications can be submitted until: 6th of August 2026 University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna seeks to increase the number of its female faculty and staff members.
