About this role
The Temporary Part-Time Scientist supports the National Solar Observatory's research mission by contributing to solar physics research and data analysis in support of an existing grant-funded project. This position is intended to complete work already underway and will collaborate with project scientists to analyze observations, develop scientific products, document results, and support project deliverables. This is a temporary, part-time position funded through the completion of an existing grant.
Essential Functions:
• Conduct scientific research related to solar physics and support the completion of an existing grant-funded project.
• Analyze and interpret solar observational data using established scientific methods.
• Develop, validate, and document scientific data products and research results.
• Collaborate with project scientists and technical staff to meet project milestones and deliverables.
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and publications as appropriate.
• Present research progress to project team members and contribute to grant reporting requirements.
• All AURA employees are responsible for the proper management and control of all AURA property within their work area, whether assigned to them or someone else. This responsibility includes reporting any known missing, stolen, or non-working property in their work area to their supervisor or the AURA Property Officer.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with government award terms and conditions assigned to this position or subordinates of this position.

Required Education/Experience/Skills/Abilities:
• PhD. in Physics, Astronomy, Solar Physics, or a closely related scientific field.
• Experience conducting scientific research and analyzing astronomical or solar observational data.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Must possess – 1) ability to read and understand instructions, drawings, safety guides, and other written materials necessary to perform job; 2) sufficient visual capacity to perform the applicable functions without assistance of visual aids other than eye contacts or eye glasses; 3) sufficient spoken aural capacity to hear and understand instructions, warning bells, fire alarms, or shouted instructions without assistance of auditory aids other than a hearing aid; and 4) ability to impart information orally so that others understand and can respond appropriately.
This position is temporary part-time and not benefits eligible.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and copiers. The work environment is generally quiet and may involve working in close proximity to others, depending on the needs of the specific function.
Salary Range:
• $65-$70/hour
The final salary will depend on skills, qualifications and experience.
