1. Background
SDGP TRACTIONS: The project aims to improve the livelihoods and wellbeing of Indonesian smallholders and their families by creating value addition through high-quality fermented cocoa beans, greater access to finance and markets, and a transparent, sustainable, and efficient fermented cocoa value chain. The project brings together the international and commercial expertise of the specialty chocolate sector, the robust experience of international and local NGOs in climate-smart agriculture, sustainable production, and community development, and an extensive network across the cocoa industry, including national and international (especially European) markets, supported by the government.
The project aims to create a transparent, sustainable, and efficient value chain for high-quality fermented cocoa beans produced by 3,400 smallholders in the Indonesian provinces of Bali, Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara. High-quality fermented cocoa beans are used in premium chocolate, a niche market in which manufacturers pay premium prices for ingredients. The project provides smallholders, smallholder groups, and cooperatives with training, technical support, and awareness-raising, processing facilities, and access to inputs, finance, and markets. As such, the project aims to increase productivity and deliver high-quality fermented cocoa beans that meet the standards of premium chocolate producers. Beneficiary smallholders' income will increase as they benefit from the premium chocolate market's pricing advantage.
The TRACTIONS project is a six-year partnership program (August 2020 – December 2026) funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) through SDGP-2178RI, implemented by Rainforest Alliance in consortium with Valrhona, Kalimajari Rikolto and Jembrana district government. The project strengthens smallholder cocoa value chains across seven districts in Sulawesi, Bali, and Flores/NTT through climate-smart agriculture (CSA) training, consolidation of cooperative governance, and facilitated access to premium markets via buyers, including Valrhona as consortium members, as well as local chocolate makers in Indonesia.
To maintain our networks, track field progress through data collection, assist and provide training to cocoa farmers, adoption, and engage local stakeholders, we need support from experienced consultants to manage our field activities.
2. Objectives
Support the Team Manager, Cocoa in coordinating project implementation with partner cooperatives, particularly Valrhona-contracted cooperatives in Central Sulawesi; collect and consolidate project data and support evidence from 3 partner cooperatives across Sulawesi; strengthen communication and coordination with project stakeholders; and support project planning, monitoring, reporting, and field activities.

Cooperative Coordination and Infrastructure Support
· Coordinate regularly with partner cooperatives, particularly Valrhona-contracted cooperatives in Central Sulawesi.
· Monitor the construction and progress of the solar dryer and cocoa processing units, ensuring implementation follows the agreed work plan and timeline.
· Conduct site visits, document construction progress, and identify any implementation issues requiring follow-up.
· Facilitate communication between Rainforest Alliance, cooperatives, contractors, and other project partners.

Data Collection and Documentation (Project Evidence)
· Collect, verify, and consolidate project data and supporting evidence from 3 partner cooperatives in Sulawesi.
· Maintain organized documentation, including activity progress, participant lists, photos, and other supporting evidence required for donor reporting.
· Ensure project data are complete, accurate, and updated.

Stakeholder Engagement, Monitoring, and Reporting
· Maintain communication with cooperatives, government, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders.

Endline Evaluation Support
· Participate in the Endline Evaluation enumerator field training at the 3 partner cooperatives.
· Coordinate with the survey team, partner cooperatives, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the training is conducted smoothly.

• Selection Criteria
The consultant will be an individual. The following qualifications, skills, and experience are required:
• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, agribusiness, rural development, or another relevant field.
• At least 3 – 5 years of experience in project implementation, preferably in the cocoa sector or other agricultural value chain projects.
• Demonstrated experience working with farmer organizations and cooperatives, including coordinating field activities and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in collecting, managing, and verifying project data and supporting documentation for reporting.
• Experience in preparing or supporting financial documentation and expense reports in accordance with project requirements.
• Experience supporting surveys, assessments, or monitoring and evaluation activities, including coordination with enumerators, is an advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia; proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Central Sulawesi is an advantage
