Summary

The IT Operations Manager supports the mission of The Museum of Flight by leading the delivery, stability, and performance of enterprise technology services and IT infrastructure. This role acts as a key operational partner to the Director of Technology, taking ownership of day-to-day IT execution, implementing the IT strategic plan, service reliability, and project delivery across the organization.

• Oversee the daily operation of the organization's technology systems, including internet and wireless connectivity, business applications, cloud-based services, data storage, system backups, and employee technology tools.

• Turn technology strategies and long-term plans into practical solutions that support day-to-day business operations.

• Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, including monitoring performance, resolving issues, coordinating contracts, and identifying opportunities to improve value and control costs.

• Lead, coach, and develop IT team members by setting clear expectations, providing guidance and feedback, evaluating performance, supporting professional growth, and addressing performance concerns when needed.

• Manage the full lifecycle of technology platforms and services, including implementation, upgrades, integrations, maintenance, and replacement planning.

• Ensure technology systems are maintained and operating effectively to support business needs with minimal interruptions.

• Serve as the primary technology partner for department leaders by understanding business needs and recommending practical, scalable technology solutions.

• Work closely with the IT Director and the Technology Committee to implement approved technology initiatives that support organizational goals and priorities.

• Support the IT Director in developing budgets, forecasting expenses, and managing operational costs for the IT Operations function.

• Ensure technology systems meet organizational standards for security, reliability, compliance, and business continuity.

• Strengthen the organization's technology security and operational readiness by overseeing activities such as system updates, access management, data backup and recovery testing, and technology lifecycle planning to ensure systems remain secure, reliable, and available.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Associate's degree in information technology or computer science or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.

• Minimum of five (5) years work experience of supervisory and vendor oversight responsibilities.

• Minimum of three (3) years in cybersecurity management preferred.

• Experience supporting hybrid, multi-vendor environment experience is highly preferred.

• Experience in a museum, public attraction, large event venue, non-profit organization, or similar setting is highly preferred.

Knowledge

• Advanced understanding of operating systems, applications, servers, desktop, and networking concepts, including wireless and firewalls.

• Advanced understanding and implementation of industry standards surrounding networking, cloud computing, virtualization (Azure VM, VMWare, ProxMox, etc), information workflow, storage, VoIP systems, asset tracking, data deduplication and disaster recovery.

• Advanced knowledge of Cloud and SaaS platforms, servers, Cloud storage (Azure, AWS, etc), and backup systems.

• Basic knowledge of ITIL v3 or v4, Project Management skills such as Waterfall, SCRUM or Agile and Cybersecurity

• Strong execution and follow through skills

• Well organized, customer service-driven, and excellent interpersonal skills.

• Advanced problem-solving, and communication skills to effectively translate complex technical concepts to non-technical executive stakeholders.

Abilities

• Ability to administer MS Azure and Microsoft 365

• Ability to administer Hypervisor environments such as VMWare, ProxMox and others

• Ability to administer storage environments such as Dell, EMC and Hitachi

• Ability to use project management tools such as Smartsheet, Asana, MS Project etc.

• Ability to effectively lead teams.

License & Certification

ITIL, PMP, (ISC)2 certifications preferred.

• Schedule is set by the supervisor with flexibility for evening and variable hours based on Museum need.

• Able and willing to work a flexible and/or extended work week which may include some evening and/or weekend work.

• Onsite attendance is essential to perform the duties of this position.

• Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Paid-Time Off

Our paid time-off plans include 2 weeks of accrued sick leave and 2 weeks of vacation (80 hours each) per year, 10 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $97,500 to $155,000 depending on experience.

If you receive an offer, your starting salary will fall within the posted range. Compensation is determined by a variety of factors, including the scope of the position, years of relevant experience, specialized skills, internal equity, market conditions, and the candidate's qualifications and ability to successfully perform the role.
