Job Summary: The Statutory Staff Accountant position for Standard Casualty Company assists with STAT and GAAP financial reporting.
Core Responsibilities/duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Conduct monthly reconciliations for all general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy
• Assemble and provide requested information to external auditors and actuaries for annual audit
• Analyze and prepare journal entries for all asset, liability and capital account transactions as required
• Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
• Calculate monthly P & L general ledger variances and report significant issues to management
• Maintain accounting controls through preparation, research, recommendation and interpretation of accounting policy and procedures as necessary
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
• Maintain financial security by complying with internal controls
• Comply with federal, state and local financial legal requirements through review of current and new legislation, enforce adherence to requirements and advise management on necessary action
• Maintain customer confidence and provide operational and financial information
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops, professional publications, personal networks and professional societies
• Any additional duties assigned by the supervisor
Required job skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Business Administration required with 2-3 years of accounting experience preferred
• Insurance and/or investment accounting experience a plus
• Must be detail and deadline oriented with excellent time management skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
• Data entry management, reporting skills and research results are required
• Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel spreadsheet proficiency
