Payroll and Compliance Specialist Location: Tempe, AZ | In-Office
A well-established construction and steel fabrication company, is seeking a Payroll & HR Coordinator to support operations across their two affiliated businesses. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to grow their skills in payroll, compliance, and HR administration.
This position works closely with the CFO, providing support on payroll, benefits administration, employee onboarding / offboarding, and various compliance reporting functions. You’ll play a key part in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across both companies.
Key Responsibilities
• Payroll & Benefits

• Process weekly payrolls for both the General Contracting & Steel Fabrication company
•
• Manage employee onboarding and terminations
•
• Administer 401(k) contributions and ensure accurate recordkeeping
•
• Oversee group insurance enrollments, changes, and terminations
•
• Coordinate open enrollment and employee communications
•
• Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality
• Compliance & Reporting
•
• Assist with weekly, quarterly, and annual payroll reporting
•
• Help prepare documentation for audits and insurance renewals
•
• Maintain all corporate licensing for both companies, including:

• State, County, and City-level business licenses
•
•
• Contractor licenses and renewals
•
•
• Annual reports and compliance filings
•
•
• Withholding and unemployment account maintenance
• Administrative Support
•
• Maintain organized and secure employee files for both companies
•
• Support employee-related activities and communications
•
• Provide assistance with various administrative and accounting tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years of experience in payroll, HR, or accounting support
• Experience in the construction industry preferred
• Knowledge of multi-state payroll and benefits administration a plus
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality
• Eagerness to learn and grow into broader accounting and HR responsibilities
