WASH is looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer with hands-on DevOps experience to help design, automate, operate, and secure our AWS cloud environment. This role will support customer-facing and internal applications by building reliable cloud infrastructure, improving CI/CD pipelines, automating operational processes, strengthening security controls, and helping modernize our technology platforms.
The right candidate will have deep AWS experience, strong infrastructure automation skills, practical DevOps knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues. This is a senior technical role for someone who enjoys building scalable cloud platforms, improving reliability, reducing manual effort, and partnering with application, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver business value.
What you'll be doing:
• Design, build, operate, and improve AWS cloud infrastructure supporting customer-facing and internal applications.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar technologies.
• Build, enhance, and support CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments.
• Automate repeatable operational tasks using scripting and AWS-native services.
• Support AWS account structure, IAM, networking, compute, storage, monitoring, backup, and security services.
• Partner with application, infrastructure, security, and business teams to deliver scalable and reliable cloud solutions.
• Implement and support highly available, resilient, scalable, and self-healing cloud environments.
• Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, security, cost, and operational health.
• Configure and improve logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and incident response workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues across AWS infrastructure, applications, deployments, networking, and integrations.
• Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and problem management activities.
• Improve cloud security posture through least privilege access, secure configuration, encryption, vulnerability remediation, logging, and governance controls.
• Help define and implement AWS standards, patterns, documentation, and operational runbooks.
• Support cloud migrations, modernization initiatives, and ongoing platform improvements.
• Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, improve deployment quality, optimize costs, and increase platform reliability.
• Serve as a senior technical resource for AWS-related engineering, DevOps, automation, and operational questions.
What we'd like to see in you:
• 7+ years of Cloud engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, or site reliability engineering experience.
• 4+ years of hands-on AWS experience in production environments.
• Strong experience with AWS core services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Route 53, RDS, Lambda, EKS/ECS, ELB/ALB, Systems Manager, Secrets Manager, and AWS Backup.
• Hands-on experience designing and supporting AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, route tables, security groups, NACLs, VPNs, NAT gateways, private endpoints, and load balancers.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, or similar platforms.
• Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern branching/release practices.
• Hands-on experience with Linux systems administration; Windows/.NET environment experience is a plus.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, ELK/OpenSearch, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure, application, deployment, performance, and networking issues.
• Working knowledge of security best practices, including IAM, MFA, least privilege, encryption, patching, vulnerability remediation, logging, and audit readiness.
• Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, backup/recovery, RTO/RPO, horizontal scaling, load balancing, and resilient architecture patterns.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.
