About this role

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the European Director EHSS&S in a remote capacity, the post holder will provide tactical and strategic support for the Avantor operations in Czechia, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. The position, ideally based in Czechia or Hungary, will be the interface between the corporate EHSS&S function and the site operations and leadership teams.

The role holder will coordinate with relevant stake holders to create Safe System of Work (SSoW) for environmental, health and safety, security and sustainability activities where necessary, and maintain existing SSoW in accordance with the company-wide compliance activities. Develops a collaborative safety culture promoting safety as a personal value. Functions as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the site Leadership Teams.

• Lead and develops topics in accordance with the Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, and Sustainability (EHSSS&S) organization for the site. • To create a culture and systems for increased worker participation and the identification and mitigation of organisational influencing factors. • Identification and mitigation of Serious Incident and Fatality hazards. • Maintains and evaluates an up-to-date legal register specific to the site operations. • Drives all measures necessary for EHS hazard mitigation. • Serves as EHSS&S point of contact for regulators, customer and internal safety audits. • Contribute to, and deliver on, the Global and European EHSS&S strategies • Support risk assessment activities for all site operations. • Manages incident investigations supporting root cause analysis and barrier failure using ABS Group methodologies. • Evaluates EHSS&S best-practices and introduces them as appropriate for regional and site operations. • Develops, audits, maintains and coordinates local responsibilities relating to ISO 14001 & 45001 certification. • Cultivates a strong safety management culture. Works with all functional areas to drive standardisation, improve efficiency, and reduce injury rates. • Supports relevant Security and Facilities functions to assess and mitigate any security risks and 3rd party operational risks to the sites. • Develops leadership and associate EHSS&S knowledge by providing, training, and resources for EHSS&S. • Work closely with operational leads and the EHSS&S management to support environmental-friendly, sustainable and social behaviour. • Supports the EHSS&S organisation to collaborate with cross-functional teams and plan for and respond to emergencies including labour interruptions, pandemics and other business interruptions. • Collaborates with support functions on change management and process safety analysis. • Support and deliver on project activities functioning as SME for EHSS&S. • Provide periodic reporting and trend analysis to standard work practices. • Evaluation and management of 3rd party EHS consultancy services. • Other duties as assigned in line with role and functions.

Necessary:

• Relevant senior professional qualifications in sciences, occupational safety or related fields (> level 6 or equivalent) • A relevant environmental qualification • Lead auditor training. (ISO 14001 and 45001) • Significant demonstratable experience within a global organisation in a multi geographic role • Languages: Hungarian or Czech fluent, English (C1) Preferred:

• ATEX 137 • Ergonomics specialisation.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Hazardous substance management and chemical warehousing experience. • EHSS&S knowledge of distribution, and chemical industry • Demonstratable application of ATEX 137 regulations within a chemical warehouse • Emergency response scenario planning and testing in a chemical environment. • SEVESO inventory management and calculation experience. • Safety Culture Analysis and development including behavioural based safety programmes • Excellent analytical and technical skills • Strategy development and deployment • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to produce professional presentation material. • Working knowledge: ISO requirements, Germany occupational health and safety legislation, local governing agencies • Experienced auditor (ISO 45001, ISO 14001) in international settings • Travel through responsible region and limited additional travel to other European operations to support wider EHS3 activities.

Abilities and Competencies:

• Self-starter, independent and confidence to challenge custom and practice. • Ability to build relationships with frontline associates and key leaders • Ability to manage own time and prioritise workloads against local and corporate needs. • Self-analytical • Creation of visual safety • Ability to train and present in front of a wide organisation as well as in front of regulatory bodies.
