JOB SUMMARY: The CNC Operator/Machinist will produce machined parts by setting up, and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
EDUCATION: Required: High school diploma or GED Preferred: Associates degree in CNC machining
EXPERIENCE: Required: 2+ years’ experience in CNC set up and machining. The ideal candidate must have experience with both CNC mills and lathes with a basic understanding of CNC programs. Must have experience in machining with manual mill and lathe as well. Knowledge of basic computer software including Word and Excel. Preferred: 5+ years’ experience in CNC set up and machining. Experience with a lathe with live tooling is strongly preferred
POSITION REQUIREMENT(S): Specialized Skills/License/Certification Required:
• Knowledge of cutting tools
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
• Ability to work overtime as business needs dictate
• Knowledge and experience with quality control tools, processes, and systems
• Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry concepts that apply to machining
• HAAS CNC program adjustments, tool setup, part setup in machine, tool offsets, part offsets
Preferred:
• Knowledge of Renishaw probing systems.
• Experience in a heavy equipment/industrial manufacturing setting
• Demonstrated problem analysis and problem solving skills
CORE COMPETENCIES (Essential Job Functions)
• Sets-up mills and lathes by loading tools; loading and indicating vises and fixtures; finding work offsets manually or with electronic probe.
• Loads machine by lifting stock into position.
• Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
• Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting tool compensation; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
• Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
• Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
• Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
