About Longhorn Wellness Center The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) promotes student well-being and creates a healthier campus community through programs, education and environmental approaches.

Purpose The Health Communication Student Assistant supports the Longhorn Wellness Center’s health communication efforts by creating engaging, evidence‑informed content and messages that promote student well‑being across campus. The role also contributes to the development, coordination, and evaluation of outreach campaigns, workshops, and educational materials.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the development of health communications projects and campaigns following principles of health communication to support student well-being and encourage health promotive behaviors. • Assist with the creation, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, campus-wide outreach and marketing for the Longhorn Wellness Center. • Support the HealthyhornsTXT program by writing text messages related to health topics and campus resources, maintaining the monthly messaging calendar, managing message scheduling, and overseeing data entry and reporting. • Create content related to safer substance use by drafting social media and website content, print materials, and planning outreach events on campus. • Create timely health topic content for @Healthyhorns social media accounts across Instagram, X, and Facebook. • Assist with developing and implementing workshops, presentations, trainings, and tabling events. • Assist with tracking and compiling data. • Collaborate with other professional and student staff to create and promote well-being initiatives and communications. • Assist with other health promotion projects as needed. • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• An undergraduate student enrolled at UT Austin taking 6 or more credits. • Knowledge of health communication principles, theories, and best practices. • Comfort learning and mastering new technology and platforms. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with UT Austin campus culture and events.

• Experience developing social media strategy and content for an organization or group.

• Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, follow-up on assignments, and take initiative on projects.

• Ability to collaborate on projects with staff, faculty and students and implement feedback effectively.

Salary Range

• Undergraduate pay: $10.00 per hour

• All students receive a $0.50 increase at the start of each fall semester after completing one academic year working with Healthyhorns.

Working Conditions

• Typical office environment. • May work outdoors at events. • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Work Shift

• The position is expected to work 15 hours per week. • Hours will be primarily completed onsite with some opportunities for remote work. • There is 1 position open. • This position will start in August with the possibility of continuing employment beyond the 2026-2027 academic year.
