About this role

Plymouth State University invites all qualified people to apply to the Degree Completion Advisor position. The Degree Completion Advisor is responsible for conducting degree reviews and junior level audits for all students, so they are aware of their time to completion. This position does all academic faculty advisor assignments and adjustments as requested by programs and students. The Degree Completion Advisor is also the main advising contact for all readmitted, study away, and past inactive students who still have credits left to finish. In addition, this role also has an advising caseload of undeclared and transfer students and is the advising representative for the Academic Affairs Committee.

Duties/Responsibilities Degree Reviews/Junior Audits (30%)

• Review academic records for all juniors (and as requested for all students) to outline completed and outstanding course requirements so students and advisors are aware what is needed prior to degree completion.

• Work closely with academic advisors, faculty, and program coordinators to provide accurate information about students' progress and address any potential issues with their academic plans.

• Offer feedback and recommendations to students who are off-track to graduate, including guidance on course adjustments, substitutions, or retakes.

• Monitor Degree Program Changes

Credits Left to Finish (20%)

• Work closely with stop-out students to help them return and complete their degree

• Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and program coordinators on past and current requirements, find suitable class and degree alternatives

• Assist students in completing a personalized academic plan and required student requests

Study Away & Transfer Advising (20%)

• Work with all study abroad students on eligibility, course selection and credit transfer

• Advise and advocate for a cohort of incoming transfer students on degree planning and time to degree completion

• Approximately 145 students each Fall & 65 each Spring divided between 3 advisors)

• Ensure transcripts are received and evaluated to ensure proper credit award

• Advise students on course selection, following catalog course sequence from each major, navigating through pending credit awards and/or pre-requisites

• Educate students on academic tools and platforms (ie: DegreeWorks, myPlymouth, Registration portal, Navigate, catalog, etc.)

• Collaborate closely with programs for suggestions and overrides (especially for block transfer, degree planning and course sequence progression)

Additional Advising/Responsibilities (30%)

• Advise a caseload of undeclared and business students (help with transition to college, registration & classes, major & minor exploration, educate on advising tools and platforms, etc.)

• Oversee advisor assignments and adjustments for all undergraduate students

• Help get students reinstated after dropped for non-payment

• Open advising for all students (not just assigned advisees) for add/drop, under enrolled (under 12 credits) before each semester

• Support students not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), assist with appeal process, plan for the following three semesters to get back on track

• Act as the advising representative for the Academic Affairs Committee

• Assist in creating the degree plans for the Workday transition

• Represent ACAC at Accepted Student’s Days, Open Houses & misc. campus events

Requirements Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required advising, higher education, human resources, program administration or related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience coaching and advising students.

• Grasp on university degree programs, policies and procedures.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to problem solve while navigating individual and complex academic requirements.

• Proficiency with various technology platforms including Microsoft Office Suite, student database software and other educational technology tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree preferred with a minimum of two years of experience in student advising, higher education, human resources, program administration or related field.

• Experience in college/university academic advising or career development office.

• Evidence of an innovative and research-based mindset.

Compensation Pay Range: $47,920.00 - $85,410.00 The pay range for this position is listed above. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
