The Lead-Logistics is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily logistics operations to ensure the efficient movement of goods and materials. This role involves managing inventory, overseeing shipping and receiving processes, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to meet delivery schedules. Also, monitors performance metrics, troubleshoots issues, and implements process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Position Summary The Department of Pathology is seeking a highly organized and proactive Lead-Logistics to support clinical laboratory operations during and beyond the transition to Pathology’s new laboratories in the Clinical Center. This newly created position will play a critical role in establishing and managing centralized laboratory inventory within the Clinical Center. Working closely with laboratory leadership, supply chain partners, and laboratory staff, the Lead-Logistics will be responsible for developing inventory management processes, establishing par levels, coordinating procurement activities, overseeing inventory replenishment, and ensuring laboratory supplies are available to support uninterrupted patient testing and diagnostic services.
The successful candidate will help create an efficient, scalable inventory management program that maximizes inventory efficiency by aligning purchasing with utilization needs, improves cost stewardship, and supports operational excellence across the Department of Pathology. To be successful in this role, the candidate must exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to effectively collaborate with laboratory staff, Supply Chain team members, and other key stakeholders.
This is a day shift position and will typically work Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. but work will require some flexibility in schedule.

This role will serve as the operational bridge between laboratory users and supply chain services, helping establish sustainable processes that support diagnostic testing while minimizing excess inventory and supply disruptions.
Key Responsibilities Inventory Management and Operations
• Establish and maintain inventory management processes for centralized clinical laboratory supplies and consumables. • Develop standardized workflows for ordering, receiving, storing, distributing, and replenishing laboratory supplies. • Collaborate with laboratory leadership to develop, monitor, and adjust inventory par levels based on operational needs and utilization trends. • Monitor storeroom inventory levels to ensure continuous availability of critical laboratory supplies. • Coordinate stock replenishment activities and manage inventory movement between the centralized inventory area and laboratory work locations. • Perform routine inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies. Procurement and Supply Chain Coordination
• Work closely with Supply Chain and Procurement teams to coordinate ordering activities and ensure timely delivery of supplies. • Track purchase orders, back orders, product substitutions, and supply disruptions. • Assist laboratory leaders in identifying alternative products and contingency plans when shortages occur. • Participate in vendor interactions and product evaluations as appropriate. Process Development and Continuous Improvement
• Create inventory tracking tools, metrics, and reporting mechanisms. • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce inventory waste, optimize storage utilization, and enhance inventory accuracy. • Support implementation of inventory management technology and system enhancements. Laboratory Partnership and Customer Service
• Serve as the primary logistics resource for laboratory supervisors, managers, and technical staff. • Coordinate with laboratory sections to understand inventory requirements and evolving operational needs. • Provide education and guidance regarding inventory processes and ordering procedures. • Respond proactively to supply-related issues and facilitate timely resolution. Receiving and Distribution
• Receive, inspect, and distribute laboratory supplies and equipment. • Coordinate appropriate storage and handling of temperature-sensitive, hazardous, or specialty materials in accordance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements. • Maintain an organized storage environment that supports regulatory compliance, safety, operational efficiency, and inventory readiness. • Support accurate documentation of inventory transactions.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
• High school diploma/GED required.
Minimum Experience:
• 4+ years of related experience required. • Some experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory or related fields. • Proven performance in earlier role.

This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
