We are seeking a compassionate, part-time Lead General Surgeon to join an established, collegial surgical team at Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center in Sitka.

Compensation & Benefits:
• Compensation salary: 0.5 FTE: $252,000 annual base salary and paid call. Schedule and Work-Life Balance
• Workweek: Full-Time, Monday–Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with two days in the O.R. weekly, including administrative time. • Call Schedule: 1:4 ratio • Generous Time Off: 132 hours off annually, including holidays, and 40 hours of CME.
Practice Details:
• Clinic facilities: Two Operating Rooms with two procedure rooms. One medical assistant per physician, nurse case manager, nurse triage, and 24/7 Hospitalist team. Ancillary services include 24/7 laboratory services, radiology, CT, MRI, and integrated Skryker Equipment. • Patient Volume: 12-14 patients per day in clinic and 8-10 patients per day in Operating Room. EMR and tools include Meditech, Dragon Dictation, and DAX AI assisted documentation. • Procedure opportunities: Endo/GI, Lap Hernia, Colon, Gallbladder, Appendectomy, with more to offer to the surgeon with interest in Breast, Chest, or Vascular cases.
Qualifications:
• MD or DO with active/unrestricted Alaska medical license or ability to obtain license. • Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery. • Unrestricted DEA. • Required: BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job
• Provides comprehensive general surgery services to inpatients and outpatients at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, to include evaluations, clinical analysis and recommendations regarding complex, diverse methods of therapy and treatment.
• Serves as surgical consultant for village health care providers and physicians throughout Southeast Alaska. Includes field visits to remote village locations and to the Ethel Lund Medical Center in Juneau.
• Provides general surgical coverage to the Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital emergency room.
• Serves in leadership positions as requested by the medical director. Participates in all medical staff functions as requested, to include quality assurance reviews and medical staff meetings, including the participation of peer review.
• Abides by medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and clinical services policies/procedures.
• On call for this service is a requirement and is clearly associated with this type of professional modality. Due to the remote nature of our environment the expectation of call is a one in two coverage and in cooperation with the medical director and administration.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of
• Knowledge of general surgical practice and procedures
• Knowledge of allopathic medical theories and therapies
• Detailed knowledge of human anatomy and physiology
Skills in
• Surgical skills related to the entire range of general surgery practice, including endoscopy and colonoscopy.
• Communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Surgical skills related to emergency practice, particularly advanced airway and trauma care.
Ability to
• Work independently in caring for critically ill patients.
• Coordinate care through the entire operating room team.
• Communicate with patients and staff in an open, caring, and supportive fashion.
