JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS The Nittany AI Alliance at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking talented and driven Penn State undergraduate students or recent graduates who have demonstrated strong engagement, leadership, and technical skills through participation in Nittany AI Alliance programs or related academic and project-based experiences.

As a part-time Nittany AI Intern, you will work alongside the full-time tech lead and program manager to support students participating in the Nittany AI Challenge, contribute to the development of AI tools and program resources, and help advance applied AI projects. Interns will gain hands-on experience working in a collaborative, Agile-style environment that strengthens technical, professional, and communication skills.

This opportunity is designed for individuals who want to apply their technical abilities, support meaningful student programming, and contribute to the growth of innovative AI initiatives at Penn State.

Key Responsibilities

Mentorship and Student Engagement — Assist the program manager and tech lead in supporting students participating in the Nittany AI Challenge by guiding project development, team collaboration, and effective use of AI tools.

Workshop Facilitation — Support the planning and delivery of workshops, ideation sessions, and team-building activities that advance student success and support Nittany AI program goals.

Program and Product Development — Work with the program manager and tech lead to improve learning experiences, refine workflows, and contribute to the design, testing, and documentation of AI-related tools and prototype solutions.

Technical Project Support — Collaborate with the full-time tech lead and other team members on AI-related projects by researching approaches, building or modifying prototypes, testing functionality, and helping maintain code quality and project organization.

Hackathon and Event Leadership — Represent the Nittany AI Alliance at major student events, including HackPSU, by leading mini technical workshops and coordinating with student organizations.

Program Impact and Reporting — Help track workshop attendance, program milestones, and student outcomes, and assist with reporting program impact to stakeholders and donors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current Penn State undergraduate student or recent Penn State graduate

• Demonstrated involvement in Nittany AI Alliance programs or similar student initiatives

• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

• Interest or experience in AI tools, software development, data analysis, or technical project work

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

• Experience with version control, documentation, testing, or Agile workflows is a plus

Additional Information

• Strong consideration will be given to candidates who can present a successful project, portfolio, or relevant experience.

• This is a part-time position for current Penn State undergraduate students or recent Penn State graduates only.

• Expected workload is 15–20 hours per week.

• This position is funded for 1-year(s); continuation past 1 year(s) will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
