Are you a natural leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys ensuring the safety and security of others? As the Building Safety Shift Supervisor, you'll lead Building Safety Attendants and Safety Dispatchers during afternoon or midnight shifts, ensuring County facilities remain secure, staff are supported, and operations run smoothly. This role combines leadership, emergency response, and building security, making a direct impact on the safety of County employees, visitors, and property.
What You'll Do • Supervise Building Safety Attendants and Safety Dispatchers during an assigned shift. • Ensure workstations are appropriately staffed and daily operations are running efficiently. • Conduct building lock-up procedures and security patrols for the County Service Center and other assigned facilities. • Respond to emergencies by providing basic fire response and first aid until emergency personnel arrive. • Identify and report building damage, maintenance concerns, and fire or safety hazards requiring corrective action. • Utilize Countywide and department-specific software to document activities and complete assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test.
Have two (2) years of full-time work experience as a Police Officer, Security Officer, Safety Officer, Building Safety Attendant, or other security related experience.
Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before hire date. NOTE: Any conviction or convictions for moving traffic violations, accidents, non‑moving traffic violations, suspension or revocation of any driving license or violation of other laws will be reviewed before an applicant can be appointed.
Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.
Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Functions as a working supervisor over a group of Building Safety Attendants. Instructs, assigns, schedules, checks, and appraises performance and recommends employees for increase or promotion. Effectively recommends on hiring, disciplining and discharge.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reviews the daily activity reports of assigned staff and reports serious incidents to the Chief – Building Safety. Performs follow‑up assignments of serious incidents as required.
Maintains records relative to personnel work hours, attendance and performance for proper evaluation and payment of employees. Consults with the Chief Building Safety regarding employees with performance problems in order to develop a plan for corrective action.
Contacts County maintenance staff when damage to County buildings or property and safety or fire hazards have been detected to ensure that appropriate repairs are made, or corrective action taken.
Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares the shift duty roster for Building Safety Attendants and Safety Dispatchers to ensure adequate coverage of County facilities.
Responds to and supervises response to emergency calls in case of illness, injury, disorderly conduct, or other conditions affecting the regular operations of the various County departments; may involve performance of emergency first aid, first response fire fighting activities until the arrival of local firefighting units.

WORKING CONDITIONS
May perform duties in areas of low or bright lighting.
May be required to perform duties in areas with large crowds.
May be exposed to communicable diseases, and dangerous/violent people.
May participate in activities that require driving or being a passenger in an automobile or bus.
