About this role

The University Learning Center (ULC) is dedicated to providing academic support to The New School’s diverse student population through one-on-one tutoring sessions, workshops, and more. Tutors help students become stronger and more independent learners, so that they succeed in achieving their academic goals.

Job Responsibilities:

• Tutor undergraduate and graduate students in various software, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Rhino, Figma, Blender, Premiere, After Effects, AutoCAD, Fusion, V-Ray, Revit, SketchUp, etc and/or in various coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Unity, Arduino and other languages you are fluent in.

• Work with students of varying skill levels from demonstrating the basics to assisting with complex problems and a range of issues in between.

• Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences.

• Complete administrative tasks, such as writing brief descriptions of each session and emailing a brief summary of daily attendance.

• Other opportunities include leading in-class workshops and/or specialized ULC workshops.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a high level of comfort and expertise in the Adobe CS and other software programs and/or must have strong knowledge of computer programming and a high level of expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Knowledge of additional programming languages is highly preferred, especially Python.

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at The New School.

• Prior tutoring or teaching experience is preferred.

• Please send at least one faculty recommendation indicating your proficiency with specific software programs to learningcenter@newschool.edu.

• Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher

• Excellent communication skills

• Demonstrated reliability and punctuality

• Able to commit to 6 (or more) tutoring hours per week

• Experience working with ESL and graduate-level students strongly preferred

• Experience working with students with ADHD a plus

• Federal Work Study preferred

Work Mode: Hybrid #LI-DNI

Pay Rate: $29.20/hr through August 31

(new pay rate will be determined by next collective bargaining agreement)

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.
