About this role
You are an experienced and motivated Copper & Fibre Cable Technician with a strong background in outside plant (OSP) telecommunications. You excel at diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing fibre optic and copper network issues while ensuring the reliability of critical telecommunications infrastructure.
You are confident using industry-standard testing and locating equipment, work safely and independently in the field, and take pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.
Essential Responsibilities
• Diagnose and troubleshoot fibre optic and copper network faults.
• Perform fault finding on underground and aerial telecommunications infrastructure.
• Locate and trace buried telecommunications facilities using cable locating equipment.
• Conduct copper and fibre testing using EXFO equipment, including OTDR and power meter testing.
• Complete continuity, loss, and performance testing of fibre optic cables.
• Identify damaged cables, splices, ducts, and other network components.
• Perform emergency repairs and service restoration to minimize network interruptions.
• Read and interpret network drawings, cable records, and utility maps.
• Accurately document completed work, test results, and repairs.
• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and testing equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies, customer requirements, and industry standards.
Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of telecommunications field experience.
• Proven experience troubleshooting and fault finding on fibre optic and copper networks.
• Experience with fibre splicing.
• Experience working on outside plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure, including underground and aerial networks.
• Experience using cable locating equipment, EXFO test equipment, OTDRs, power meters, and fibre inspection and testing equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret cable records, utility drawings, and network documentation.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime as required.
• Must hold a valid driver's licence appropriate for the vehicle being operated and be able to provide a clean driver's abstract.
Working Conditions
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including sitting, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 45 lbs (20 kg).
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Comfortable working around excavation activities, traffic, and active construction sites.
• Ability to successfully pass all required background checks.
Compensation
$0.00 per hour This is the applicable wage for this position.
Remote, site-based positions may be eligible for additional incentives including but not limited to travel and accommodation allowances.
