About this role

Job summary

Cleveland Clinic London are looking to recruit a Senior Clinical Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy team, with a salary up to £62,000 on offer.

This is a full-time, Monday to Sunday role (08:00 20:00)

There is a requirement to work 1 set of night shifts (3/4 shifts) every 3-4 weeks (20:00 08:00).

Patient safety is at the heart of all our pharmacy services. At Cleveland Clinic London, well be using automation, unique to the UK, digital infrastructure, secure storage systems, and bar-coded medicines administration to achieve a closed loop medicines administration system. Our Pharmacy services will enable patients to be fully involved in their own care and to make shared decisions about their treatment.

Main duties of the job

Support the development, validation, and maintenance of the clinical and medicines related guidelines and protocols.

Supervise junior staff members in the delivery of the clinical pharmacy service, and where necessary to assume responsibility for specialist clinical service.

Work with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure that medicines prescribed for patients represent the safest treatment option.

Provide high quality advice and counselling to patients to support medicines optimisation.

Assist with the management of complaints and take corrective actions as appropriate.

Develop and implement clinical strategies

Leading the planning and implementation of assigned projects as per project timelines.

Day to day support in various pharmacy areas

Clinical responsibilities

Support the development, validation and maintenance of the clinical and medicines related guidelines and protocols

Support the development of clinical pharmacy training programs

Provide day-to-day clinical pharmacy services for defined clinical areas

Assure timely and effective provision of medicines for our patients

Assure safe and secure medicines management practice in clinical areas

Provide high quality advice and counselling to patients in order to support medicines optimisation

Support best practice and delivery of high quality care

Support and provide on-call services and support the Pharmacy team for the night shifts.

Support departmental and hospital audits, service evaluations and research

Support Pharmacy and other multidisciplinary staff to meet their medicines-related educational and development needs

Assist with the management of complaints and take corrective actions as appropriate.

Contribute to the development, promotion, implementation and monitoring of departmental and multidisciplinary policies and initiatives

Compliance with the Cleveland Clinic Enterprise Key Performance Indicators.

Develop and coordinate activities relating to Pharmacy key performance indicators including a program and schedule of audits and continuous improvement activities to monitor performance, productivity and adherence to Policies and Procedures

Promote and maintain effective communication as well as disseminate information related to practice development

Work in accordance with Cleveland Clinic Londons values and mission statement by modelling optimal behaviour and values.

Be accountable for and ensure own competence in practice

Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times

Assist in promoting Pharmacy practice and care delivery in line with relevant research and evidence base and according to policies and guidelines

Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures

Ensure the safe custody of drugs in accordance with policy and legal requirements

Compliance with all Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures understanding your role in the prevention of infection in patients and staff

Participate in and live new developments

Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of pharmacy practice standards, guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways

Participate and support medicines management related innovation

Provide input to ad hoc initiatives and projects as required

Other

To maintain an active and compliant programme of CPD in accordance with hospital guidelines or relevant professional registration body

Support dispensary staff where needed

Adhere to relevant Finance related policies including authorisations and billing

Work with relevant pharmacy staff and ward managers in managing stock

Any other duties commensurate with the role or at the request of the Pharmacy Leadership team.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Completion of a masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent). Post graduate clinical diploma in clinical pharmacy (hospital) or equivalent experience. Full registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Experience Essential

Experience of working in a hospital, and of project related work in this environment. Demonstrable evidence of competence in general clinical practice, including medicine and surgery.
