• Job Summary
• Responsible for performing a variety of laboratory procedures in designated laboratory areas. This position performs analytical testing of blood and other biological specimens, requiring theoretical knowledge, technical expertise, and critical thinking skills to generate accurate and reliable results. The role supports laboratory operations through specimen collection, testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, workflow coordination, and training activities. This position assists laboratory leadership in achieving departmental goals related to quality, service, team development, compliance, and operational effectiveness. On-call responsibilities may be required.
• Shift: College Boulevard Day Shift
• 36 hours per pay period
• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Scheduled every Thursday and Friday one week, and Friday the following week
• Generalist position with limited blood bank and no microbiology responsibilities
• Includes phlebotomy duties and independent work responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Performs analytical testing on blood and other biological specimens in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards.
• Completes laboratory testing accurately, efficiently, and within established turnaround times.
• Performs specimen collection, including phlebotomy, specimen processing, and specimen handling activities.
• Conducts pre-analytical activities including equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory management, supply stocking, specimen processing, cleaning, and disinfection.
• Performs post-analytical activities including result reporting, documentation, technical review, and troubleshooting.
• Participates in quality control, proficiency testing, and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Maintains laboratory equipment and performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation as assigned.
• Facilitates workflow and assists with prioritization of laboratory testing activities to support efficient operations.
• Provides technical support and guidance to laboratory assistants, technicians, students, and clinical staff as needed.
• Serves as a preceptor for new employees and students, supporting orientation, training, competency assessment, and documentation.
• Assists with laboratory and organizational performance improvement initiatives.
• Evaluates new laboratory procedures, technologies, and equipment and assists with special projects and data collection activities.
• Supports customer service initiatives and resolves issues within established guidelines.
• Maintains compliance with safety standards, infection prevention practices, hazardous material handling requirements, and personal protective equipment protocols.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, instrumentation, procedures, and processes applicable to assigned work areas. • Ability to maintain compliance with organizational policies, corporate compliance standards, accreditation requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. • Ability to work independently while managing workflow and changing priorities with minimal supervision. • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment, records, documentation, and quality assurance activities. • Ability to educate, train, mentor, and support laboratory staff and students. • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. • Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. • Ability to operate laboratory information systems, electronic health records, and related computer applications. • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, maintenance requirements, and testing procedures. • Strong critical thinking, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. • Strong organizational, mathematical, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain professional relationships with patients, providers, and team members. • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call assignments as needed. • Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures, technical information, and laboratory protocols. • Ability to effectively communicate technical information and resolve issues through sound decision-making. • Ability to handle infectious biological specimens, hazardous chemicals, and laboratory reagents safely and appropriately. • Ability to learn and implement new laboratory techniques, procedures, and technologies. • Knowledge of molecular testing, DNA/RNA extraction techniques, stem cell isolation, histologic preparation, and advanced laboratory methodologies preferred. • Knowledge of laboratory research processes, molecular assays, and specialized testing techniques preferred. Education
• Bachelor's Degree required. Field of Study
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Science, Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field required. • Equivalent educational qualifications meeting CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel may be considered, including qualifying military laboratory training and approved clinical laboratory training programs. Work Experience
• Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-ASCP) preferred. • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-AMT) preferred. • Medical Technologist (MT-AAB) preferred. Additional Information
• Candidates must meet applicable CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist is preferred. This position may require periodic on-call coverage, independent work assignments, and phlebotomy responsibilities.

Pay Range:
