In this position... This role is the core Calibration Lead Engineer responsible for the vehicle-level performance of the ECUs within the BLE Subsystem in onboard systems — spanning Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies. The subsystem consists of the central BLE/UWB control module (BLEM/BUN) and a range of BLE/UWB/NFC antennas (BLEAMs/UWB Anchors), used globally across Ford and Lincoln nameplate vehicles. The primary feature these modules support is Phone As a Key (PaaK), along with additional features such as intrusion detection, Key Fob, Tire Pressure Monitoring, and OTA updates. The BLEM/BUN communicates with the antennas via dedicated LIN or private CAN-FD, with smartphones via BLE/UWB, and with other vehicle ECUs — including the Body Control Module, Telematics Control Module, SYNC Control Module, backend cloud, and other feature-specific modules — via CAN/CAN-FD.
What you'll do...
• Lead calibration activities for the BLE/UWB subsystem — reviewing and approving supplier-provided calibrations, leading smoke tests and SW releases, and driving calibration defects to closure. • Ensure feature and functional requirements are clear, achievable, and communicated to suppliers, partnering with spec authors and feature owners to keep specifications current. • Define and validate BLE/UWB/NFC and wireless requirements (Phone As A Key, TPMS, Key Fob) across the ECU and antennas, and ensure the subsystem design supports all expected customer use cases. • Evaluate wireless performance against requirements through simulation, bench, and vehicle-level validation, and present results to the broader team. • Support RF/wireless implementation, certification (FCC, CCC, CE, etc.), and verification at supplier facilities, bench, and End of Line. • Drive resolution of complex RF/wireless and intersystem issues involving BLE modules, other vehicle systems, phone apps, and off-board systems. • Partner with suppliers and internal teams on system design reviews, PCB/EMC reviews, and quality analysis to ensure interfaces meet requirements. • Collaborate with the broader BLE/UWB subsystem team (hardware, software, verification), support program milestones/PATs, and assist with vehicle launches (occasional travel may be required).
What you’ll have…
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent. • 4+ years of system/ECU development experience in design and release of electronic control module for automotive OEM and / or for automotive Electronic Control Manufacturer. Preferred to also have experience in automotive connectivity solutions such as Bluetooth, Ultrawide band, Wi-Fi, or Cellular. • Proficient in RF simulation and RF evaluation • Experience with RF/wireless validation and industry certification. • Proficient in Microsoft Office products. • Teamcenter VSM, JIRA, and Github experience desired. • Demonstrates positive teamwork ethics and good leadership behaviors. Even better you’ll have…
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products • Demonstrates good leadership behaviors • Strong analytical skills • Strong interpersonal skills. • Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines. • Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment pertaining to operating procedures and projects. • Skilled in Netcom requirements, Danlaw testing, EOL testing, Vehicle diagnostics, CAN tools, etc. • General understanding of vehicle Cyber Security cryptographic, Hardware, SW and system interface. • Mindset of Continuous Improvement You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
